anyone else tired of this genre?

it's the accoustic /singer /songwriter type going around that i (assume) became popular with the movie "Juno."

you know, where the chic or guy plays a guitar, or shamefully not even that far... but says (yes, speaks, not sings) the lyrics over the melody in a quick (what, pantameter? wild guess)...

it was cool when juno did it... but these comcast cable commercials are making me want to throw my boot through the screen.

so... anyone else?

i'm told this is how we manage anger... amiright?

I didn't like Juno at all. That music was terrible, too. So I guess I'm way ahead of you on that

im tired of the people who get up on stage with an acoustic guitar, and they know 6 open chords, and have no vocal talent, and proceed to sing a couple of super-bland songs, and then everyone praises them for being original and talented

Its not that I didn't like Juno, its just so...not as original or out there as it thinks it is.

take it or leave it, i'd rather have seen juno than not seen it. i've learned to see movies reguardless of their hype as either entertaining, or not entertaining to see. dont give into being "cool" and saying movies aren't cool when elitists all of the sudden say they don't like a certain movie. either you enjoyed watching it or not. i realize there's a lot more that goes into considering a movie great, but i feel like too many people try to be trendy and take another person's bs remarks to heart. you like what you like, don't change.

Me too. Juno unfortunatly falls into # 3 (with a small bleed over to #4) out of the several "reasons I hate this movie/music/television show/person/etc." categories:

    1. Something that is wildly popular
    2. Something that used to not be wildly popular, but now is wildly popular
    3. Something that was made in an unpopular style or format, but became wildly popular
    4. Something people really liked because nobody else knew about it, but then it blew up and became wildly popular
    5. Something that is in fact not very good, but regardless is wildly popular
    6. The movie/music/television show/person/etc. is actual crap (very rare)

all of those, save #5 and 6, are really bad reasons to not like anything. does it make you feel like a rebel to hate anything that the majority of people like?

i will say, there are alot of things out there that are terrible, yet popular. that would fall under the headings of #5 or 6. the first 4 just sound like something i would have said at 14. it's actually the reason i used to hate (and i mean HATE) DMB. i heard Crash all over the radio and the Abercrombie crowd listened to it, therefor it must be terrible music. wait...

I was using the term "I" as in the general public. I re-read it too--It's somewhat confusing. Those guidelines for the most part don't apply to me, it was more of a shot at the general population. Especially the very pretentious population of Ants.

Very well said, and I agree. #2 reminds me of most of the locals here in C'Ville that hate DMB; they feel in a way like they owned the band and it was all very tight knit, blah blah blah. Now they're so huge, Dave didn't even remember me from the old days! I hate them!

There is something to be said about that. When an album comes out by a band that you absolutely love, and there's a particular song on it that you love more than the others, and they happen to come out with it as a single, it makes you feel sort of like everybody else isn't 'discovering' it quite like you are. Sort of like your little gift that you found and now it's being shared with the world. That always seems unfair.

ok. i agree with you then.
i equate that to the whole Dane Cook deal. when he was "underground" he was wildly popular because "omg you never heard of him he brings teh lulz with his energiez!" and then he became truely wildly popular, so then there was the backlash of "oh i hate him, he's so mainstream/sellout now". except that's different because he was never funny and always sucked.

edit: is there any info out about the Blackstar album, previews or anything? one of the few hiphop artists i like...

Dane Cook was a good example of this, but his situation was on fucking steroids. Honestly--Monday morning people woke up, didn't know who he was. Wednesday night people thought he was the greatest thing in the world. Thursday night, every person in the world went to see him in person. Friday morning everybody loved him more, and bought all his merchandise. Sunday afternoon everybody turned on him. Literally, at like 2:15 in the afternoon, everybody decided to hate Dane Cook.

As far as Blackstar goes, Kweli announced somewhere that Blackstar is officially coming out with a 2010 album. I'll see if I can scrounge it up somewhere.

I'll see if I can scrounge it up somewhere.

i was so happy when Mos was on House. he's so talented, musically and theatrically.

i will say, there are alot of things out there that are terrible, yet popular. that would fall under the headings of #5 or 6. the first 4 just sound like something i would have said at 14. it's actually the reason i used to hate (and i mean HATE) DMB. i heard Crash all over the radio and the Abercrombie crowd listened to it, therefor it must be terrible music. wait...
Things that are wildly popular are usually shit.
