Anyone that went to Phish last year - was there any tailgating or preparty?

I live in the city, would prefer to go to Alpine but this will be easier. Venue can have some amazing views.

The "Taste" (which I would avoid at all costs) is always the week of the 4th of July, but they have shortened it starting last year so it might not be.

If you find a good deal at another downtown hotel it would be just as easy to get down there via train, bus, etc (so don't limit yourself to just staying at the ones down by Congress Plaza - it's still a pretty long hike over to the venue)

Any questions about Chicago feel free to message me.
Well I got 2 nights for 4 people at the Plaza for 326.20 total. I haven't found anything better than that yet, but if I do I'm willing to change reservations. I'm a college student and so are my friends, we can't afford much more. Any recommendations?

Awesome that they are playing there. This past year was the first time in a while that I did not go to Alpine, and I fully support this venue. Great location and view.

To clarify on the Taste of Chicago talk: The taste used to always center around the 4th of July and run for like 10 days. A year or two ago the city changed that and made it a lot smaller. They cut the taste in half to just 5 days and moved it to after the 4th. This year the taste is slated for 7/9-7/13, so there will be no overlap with the DMB shows

I don't know if you need to put that you have 4 people, just 2.... in my experience Chicago hotels don't really enforce an extra charge for additional guests. Just make sure you get two beds. I searched Orbitz for 2 guests and got cheaper options. You can always go directly to the hotels' website too, after you find a good price online.....

You might be the only one to ever support northerly island to date since the remodel last summer lol

I'm frightened. Since we're old we only do one major show a season now. I don't want to blow my DMB allowance on a shitfest. Between the horror stories and the risk of only GA I'm thinking not so much. I think Deer Creek will get my big money this year, and if we get an itch the day of the show, I'll snag some lawn tix and take the train in for the day.

I live in Chicago. If I had to choose I would much rather go to Deer Creek than Northerly Island.

I wouldn't travel just to come to this venue, unless you also want to make a trip to the city (which is fun).

Don't get me wrong we'll be going and looking forward to it, but it's no Alpine or Deer Creek. Or even DTE for that matter.

These are the only shows I 100% know I'd be able to make, I don't care if I'm traveling just to go to the venue. I have summer school and can't make it to pretty much any other show. So I'll take this over nothing. Is it any worse of a venue than Lakeside was in 2011? Also seeing the city doesn't really matter to me, I'm in Chicago enough. I usually go at least 4 times a year, and a lot more when I was younger since my mom is from there. Still wish they were doing Alpine though.

I live in NW Indiana, so I'm not really traveling that far. More than likely we'll get a couple lawn tickets and just enjoy some music and hopefully a cool vibe. I'm not putting all my eggs in the NI basket though.

Congress is fine. If I were booking, looking at Priceline, I'd go with the Hyatt Regency, but that one is more than fine.

Lawn is fine as long as you're not in the back. Don't let the "horror" stories fool you. Get somewhat close and you'll be golden.

I'm down with this. Alpine will always be my venue but this will be cheaper for me to see them in Chicago and then I'll head to Deer Creek like normal anyway. I'm cool with it for one year. But no way I'm sittin lawn there.

The Chicago show will have a GA pit, reserved seats and of course the lawn.

You can't go wrong at Deer Creek. I personally like this place better then Alpine.

Gas and hotel is $300 alone right there.

from what everyone is saying, it looks like it might all be GA with some bleacher seats off to the side. This is apparently how Phish did it.

    Different seating arrangements..
    http://www.stubhub.com/venue/charter...therly-island/

If this is the case, then that would be a tall glass of screw that. I'm not a GA kind of person.

The reviews from shows last summer were pretty harsh, and at least 2 of the shows had to give refunds/vouchers whatever because it was so bad.

There was a lot of updating to the venue since those shows. Take that with a grain of salt.

The venue was rushed into being used. The first batch of shows it wasn't ready. It will be for this summer. Relax everyone.

Glad to see Chad started the thread!
I'm torn about this venue, will probably attend to get out of a family reunion and my brother lives down the street! Party at his place! Haha

The venue was rushed into being used. The first batch of shows it wasn't ready. It will be for this summer. Relax everyone.

This venue is actually really nice. It's beautiful. Do your best to not get lawn, but if you do get lawn and you get there early you'll be fine. For Phish they had screens on the lawn too so I watched everything on the night when I was too far back.

The skyline is awesome behind the venue

    The sound is great

Pit area is big and that'll be good for getting tickets

Don't do VIP unless there's a different warehouse one because the current VIP section is elevated and you can't see

For Phish parking was free at Soldier field and the walk is not long.

There was a lot if tailgating for Phish and they had tons of garbage cans in the lots to keep them clean. Overall great experience

Just checked that one and it seems like that aren't any rooms available, but I did book a room at Palmer just in case as well.

Right after the lawn was installed, Buffett happened. It poured, and all the sod that was just planted was torn up and useless after being trampled on in the rain. Hence the reason why people were complaining about the mud and whatnot for that show. People then complained about the sound at Dispatch and Buffett all the same. Phish brought delay speakers set up throughout the lawn so a loss of sound quality wouldn't be so detrimental. I'm sure DMB would do something similar.
