It's not really a joke in my opinion, it's a market. I'm sure you have gotten incredible seats dozens of times due to your seniority. Congrats, you benefited from a system that allowed you to perpetually get better seats than almost everyone else because you were there from the beginning. Should you be rewarded for that? Perhaps. However, in my opinion, rewarding you and other '98 members nearly every N2 of a 2 night stand up through the mid 2000s was simply overkill.
Now, instead, you still have a chance to get relatively good seats for "under market" through your sometimes-recognized seniority via the random lottery process. I have on numerous occasions in recent years (as an '05 member who accidently let his '02 account expire). Alternatively, you can pay $275 for VIP, which, guess what, is STILL below market for most venues for the top seats/pit (hell, I could probably go sell my 2 N2 VIP pits for SPAC and make over a grand in profit).
My point is this. If you miss the great seats so much, shell out $275 for your favorite venue once a year and do it. Most, if not all posters on here could afford that once a year. Are your days of going to 10+ shows a year with premium seats for $75 bucks gone? Yes, but all in all, we all still get a much better deal than many other bands, sporting events, etc. out there, AND the VIP process allows fans that weren't members of the warehouse since the beginning an actual chance to see the band up close without having to pay truly insane prices on stubhub while having to deal with thought of working with brokers, dealing with potential fake tickets, etc.
