Will we hear a new song on Letterman?

"Legends of Letterman" doesn't read "new" to me. I think the show features a classic or Dave L. favorite.


Maybe they debut something new in the internet set, but probably not.

and when Dave went into the studio for AFTW, he intended on making an album of older songs (Dave himself said that). but when he got with lillywhite, it felt like old times and they started working on new songs instead. so its not unrealistic that there could actually be a bunch of older songs on this album considering the last time they were in the studio that was their intention. the thought of doing it is there, its just a matter of will they actually follow through with it or will they feel like writing new songs again.

the "legends" thing is just meaning the biggest names that have been on the show in the past. like an all-star cast. only the best of the best are coming back for one more performance. i really don't see that meaning anything other than the fact that they will play. obviously some older songs are going to be played because they are doing that mini concert thing, but i wouldn't rule out a new song, especially on the show. if a new song gets played, its during the on-air segment. letterman can still get his pick of songs for the mini concert thing. letter still gets his songs and dmb promotes the new album. its a win-win.

apparently some guy over on TDC i think it posted about it. don't know where he got it from, but he said that the new album is 11 songs, 9 of them old. but there was confusion because he said he was stoned when he posted and mixed up the numbers. originally said it was 2 old and then corrected himself saying that its actually 9 old. all i ever saw of it was whatever people posted on here that he supposedly said.

I understand all of that. IMO, it makes no sense to do that. Although, a B-side/ double disc would be A-Okay in my book. I guess we will just have to wait and see and let this conversation just die already

The closer this gets, the less I think they will play something new. Maybe a new cover? Letterman had John Mayer learn American Pie for the show.

someone asked boyd on twitter the other night if they'd play a new song and he said something like "I can't tell you what will be on the setlist". Obviously he'd say this either way, but better than saying something like "whatever dave is feeling" or "I'm not sure".

Well, since all the focus is on letterman until his show goes off, really any other time is a better time to announce it

It seems like it makes it the best time possible. I'm sure Letterman is getting great ratings in this final run, this would be a great to play a single and announce the album. Especially if they actually pick a great song for a single, it could really boost the band in terms of the general public.

Gonna say no to this and no to a new album announcement before the tour begins next week. I find it hard to believe the first time we're going to officially hear a new song or album announcement will be on one of David Letterman's final, celebratory shows. Just seems odd to me. The guessing games finally end tomorrow...

Haha I was thinking of the mini concert webcast thing tomorrow night. But they are taping the Friday night show tomorrow, so I'd imagine some news would leak if they play a new song. Kind of how it did when Dave played Mercy on Fallon. I remember people who were at the live taping in the afternoon commenting on Twitter about hearing a new song before it aired later that night.

letterman tapes his thursday and friday shows on thursday. so those two tapings, then we know for sure the live stream of the mini-set is starting at 9pm. so the two show tapings will probably be somewhere in the range between 5 - 8 pm.

We think the regular show tapes at about 6:00, with audience needing to show up at 3:30-4:30
