Rashawn owns... a trumpet, which he attempts to blow so hard that every dog in the area immediately begins barking in pain.

His sound just doesn't fit with the band. I understand how integral he was to holding things together, but that doesn't mean he is a good fit for the band.

Want to get fans back in the seats - drop rashawn, drop tim (or switch him to all acoustic) and bring back butch. Would be the best selling tour of the past 5 years by far.

That's it? That's the key recipe? Just playing consistently good sets with this lineup wouldn't do that? And this fantasy lineup would automatically get the job done even if the sets aren't great?

It's completely understandable to feel like the trumpet sound doesn't fit but that just doesn't seem like the answer to the "best selling tour of the past 5 years by far."

It's really tough to think that trying to recapture the past would revitalize the band. Imagine if you tried to become the same person you were 10 years ago, knowing what you know could you really be that person? Would putting the same people around you help or would it just annoy you?

It's not about being the same person. It's about recapturing a similar sound that blends past and present. Jeff, Tim on a blend of acoustic and electric and Butch combines three different eras.

I still can't believe the clamoring for Butch. You guys need to go listen to some of the Bartenders, Seek Ups, and LIOGs with him from 2005-07. You really want that snoozefest back?

    Never-ending, musically uninteresting piano interludes.

Yeah this is the thing for me. An argument people use today to get on people criticizing the current sound is "well you all wanted Tim in the band full time and he joins and you still complain." Yeah no shit, what he is doing now is not what people wanted when they were asking for him to join. If it would be late 90s Butch then sure, but if he was playing how he did right before he left then no way

I definitely look on the Butch era with rose colored glasses. The Heartbeat intros, Linus and Lucy.......it's hard to remember the Carlos Malta on LITHOG like moments where the jam is more about finding a way back to the song than improvisation.....but they were there.

That being said I miss the Jazzy-ness.

Butch coming back would be disastrous. It's not going to be early era Butch, it will be today Butch.

Guesting for a few shows, that would be fun. Touring...no thanks. Less band members, not more.
