All of the quotes in that article were from previous articles. We heard all of that over a year ago, so that is a pretty worthless article.

Rush? They've been in the studio for this project since 2013.

Well this band isn't say the Grateful Dead they are not going to release a new album every single year. And didn't Phish have 5 years inbetween their last few albums?

I'm not sure what the big deal is about a formal announcement. We all know they're in the studio working. Besides, it's not like this album is going to make it the "Big 4"
Don't get me wrong, I wish they were all set to release a good/great album before the Europe tour. But, I don't need a new album just to have a new album. If the band isn't finished, or doesn't think what they have is good enough, yet, I would prefer they wait.

We can't trust the band to know what's good enough.

I like when I see someone compare DMB to another band... Well, Phish did this... and why isn't DMB more open to the fans, like BNL.

Phish sings about toilet bowl scrubbers and taffy. BNL is garbage and is trying to stay relevant. BNL is a year away from crowd funding an album and playing in someone's living room for $1,500.

Past doesn't predict anything in the case of DMB.

Agree with the bold 100%. Biggest mistake they made was kicking out their original lead singer. He WAS the band. Coke problem or not, he's what made BNL so great and gave them their distinctive sound.

Then who can we trust with it?

It sounds like there are quite a few people here who have zero interest in any new music from the band.

I think there are a lot of people pretending they don't want new music. They are trying to be part of a cool group that doesn't care. Yet, they continuously lurk in the new album thread, just to tell everyone they "so don't care" and "everything is stupid." Then you have others who think if they act negative enough, some positive news will come out.

I get that they are all in very different points of life and Dave's life especially is completely different so the music will reflect that, but I am just getting sick of the "oh that's a nice little song, nothing special but nice" impression I keep getting. When are they going to come out with new music that has aggression, or any feeling other than "oh, that's nice". One of the many reasons I love the band is because I feel their music unlike anything else I've ever heard, and there is a huge range from something like Cry Freedom to DDTW to BOWA. I think back to the last couple of albums and Mercy, You and Me, Sweet, Dive In, etc. and it is all the same feel with maybe the exception of Squirm. I'm not even bringing up the lyrical argument, just give me something I can react in some way to.

I am so sick of the "Dave is in a better place" excuse, even though I'm quite certain that is his actual reason. So you have to be in a dark, depressed place in order to write The Stone or Dreaming Tree or even Pig??

Other musicians are happily married with children and can still tell good, interesting stories with their lyrics. This is another example of Dave taking the easy way out.

Also Two Step, Tripping Billies, Lie In Our Graves, So Much To Say, Cry Freedom, Drive In Drive Out, and Say Goodbye were written before she was murdered as well. It's not that Dave was in a dark place, he was just a better songwriter back then.

Dave essentially writes lullabys now.... Snow Outside and Broken Things are fantastic in my opinion. But other than that, post 2005 his writing has gone downhill.

Yeah, he got tired of those people saying "you don't know what you're talking about" and all the negativity. It's what chased off a lot of people with inside info.

i forget which classic rock band documentary it was on palladia i was watching some time ago.... but they were talking about song writing and one of the guys said "you have your entire life's worth of material to write your first album...... after that it gets a little tougher to find material"

    something along those lines
