Rob Cavallo?

So what happened to him? Seemed like they were going to have him produce the next album. Did something happen that I missed?

Well there was nothing set in stone for Cavallo. I think they jumped at the opportunity to work with Lillywhite again and vice versa. Plus Cavallo is now Chairman of Warner Brothers.

I mean during the Big Whiskey Promo videos they said Cavallo would be back.... they can't say he's not coming back. Bad Marketing.

Everything ever said by the band during an album promotion should be taken with an extreme grain of salt.

Yep, I think it became a matter of Rob didn't have the time to jump into the studio with them for a couple months.

What is an extreme grain of salt? Does it taste incredibly strong? Is it far-left/right? Does it live on the edge?

An extreme grain of salt makes shit taste like rainbows.

Seriously though, I like Cavallo and thought he did a fine job, but not nearly as fine as Lillywhite. DMB + Lillywhite was the best fit.

Cavallo did a good job with what he was given. Production was not BW's weak link.

This is the truth. Only one DMB producer has produced greatness, and he's back now.

I haven't been on here in a while, what was BW's weak link? Is the consensus now that it sucked?

The weak points were lyrics on certain songs. The album certainly doesn't suck though.

The weaknesses were certainly lyrics. The music was there for the most part.

It doesn't help that we've been beat over the head with it at shows for 3 years.

Absoluetly true. Dive In seemed to be widely disliked when BW first came out but the band gave it a rest and now it seems a lot of people enjoy it. I bet a lot of that can be attributed to the song not being played 30 times a year.

Wow, did not know Cavallo was Chairman of Warner Bros, that's huge.

He did an amazing job getting the band back on track and enjoying themselves in the studio. I consider that record a total success. Just sucks Roi died in the process

two step is every other show, and its adored.

the fact is, BW isnt good enough for the amount of plays it gets.

I don't think I said otherwise because I agree with that. I've said before, certain songs (Big 3 +BS) are good enough to be played a lot and nobody minds but with songs that might be good but not quite on Big 3 level, play count does matter in terms of how much people enjoy hearing them at a show.

    This.

Since he's an exec at WB now, I'm sure he doesn't have time to go and produce an album for six months, even if that time is not consecutive.

I don't think the band thinks it sucked, nor do I believe they think the majority of fans think it sucked.

I'll go as far as to say they probably would have worked with him again, but we all know he's not available.
