Fucking fuck. No point in training for any spring/early summer events when you live in MN/WI. I'm at the end of my rope with the snow thing. I refuse to get back on the treadmill.

I need to move.

Fuck.

Took sometime on my run this morning to reflect on where I was 1 year ago today. I was on Boylston St., the finishing straight for the Boston Marathon, cheering on not only my friend, but everyone else. Thankfully my friend was done with with race by the time the bombs went off, but we were in the Commons and heard everything. My run was nothing special, but I got up and hit the road in the rain, unlike a few people today who by no fault of their own cannot. Today I run for them. Today I run for Boston.

Have a great time at the race. I have to think that it will be a great day next Monday. It is always is, but this one will be extra special. I am little sad that I won't be headed up to Boston this year. The same guy that I cheered on last year is running again, but it just didn't work out this time around. Will watch on TV and take in what I can.

I've had it for a year. I've changed everything and rested, and it still flares up with minimal mileage.

I had a real bad calf injury last August, and my body hasn't been right since.

After over a year and over 700 miles, I think it's time to get a new pair of running shoes. I've really been feeling their age this past month or two in my feet and knees. I can't believe I got this much milage (pun intended) out of them.

Anyone watching the Boston Marathon? Streaming it online this morning since I don't have Universal Sports. Good races so far. Looks like a gorgeous day too.

Got the Ghost 6s but damn are they narrow! Had to return them, ended up getting the Brooks Glycerin 11s instead because I didnt want to wait for Brooks to make a wide version for me, ETA was 7 weeks haha

I wear a 2EE width, so my pickings are slim. Thankfully I love the Mizuno Wave Inspires, so I stick with them. Have heard great things about Brooks as well, hopefully they work for you.

biggest thing was probably just running more
instead of around 50 miles a week, i shot for 60

before i ran 5 days, had 1 rest day, 1 crosstrain
this time i ran 6 and had 1 rest
although the winter was harsh i actually only needed to use a treadmill a couple of times which was pretty awesome

hoping to shave off some time from my last race. nervous

I've been having some pooping problems during my runs lately.
I don't do long runs, I do 5 miles at a time, 3 or 4 times a week, but lately I haven't been able to get through a run without have to take a dump. Even if I poop before I go, I usually have to go again during. I don't know what this means, but what I do know, is there is only one hidden spot on my run, and it's behind a church. I have left a couple presents back there.

Ok cool, thanks for the info. I have always been hesitant to add more days to my routine, so I stick with 5 days per week. I usually just push out each run to get in more miles, then add a day. Maybe time to rethink that and go the route you are.

You will do great on the next race, you showed that you have it in you from your last race to put it all together on race day.

Grandma's has become one of those bucket list races, heard such great things about it. Been a top race for a long time and has always gotten rave reviews from anyone that has done it.

Oh man. While funny, it is not fun when it happens. Hopefully the church recognizes this as a tithe and offering.

Just broke double digit miles for the first time in well over a year, potentially two years. I feel good, but damn it was slow and I'm going to be so damn sore.

Ran a 12k last weekend in 62 minutes with my body armor. One more long one this weekend and then tapering for a marathon on 1 June. Hoping for about 4:20.

Will be my first (and likely last because I don't know if my knees can handle any more). I am running it with my sister. She was supposed to do one in TN a few months ago for St Jude that got cancelled due to weather, so I convinced her to come up here for the makeup and decide to run for Wounded Warrior Project.

So I am trying to get back into shape to accomplish something I failed to do in my youth to do, mainly due to laziness and that is to break 20 minutes on a 5k (got 20:16 junior year, fucked around and didn't train senior year). Anyone have any tips to improve long distance speed? All I am doing is running mostly every day and aiming to keep my pace at 9:00-9:30 for the month of May, and each month lower the pace. I know I have a while to go, but its a start.

Speedwork/track work can do a great deal to help your speed at longer distances. Hills/bridges also build general strength. If you're in Virginia (which it looks like from your profile), you may have a hard time really dropping your pace over the summer, if you're just starting to run again. Southern heat/humidity can be brutal...
