Complete single studio album at one show?

If you were going to a show tonight, and you know that DMB is going to play one of their entire studio albums in their set, which album do you pick?

Will be surprised if it's less than 80% for BTCS.

I'll go with Busted Stuff because I've never seen Busted Stuff or Kit Kat Jam live before (and I'd love to).

Plus, its full of great songs you don't typically get at shows or only see once every few years (if that) - Captain, You Never Know, Raven, Grace is Gone, Digging a Ditch, Big Eyed Fish...hell, even Bartender qualifies now.

Crash so I can get Let You Down. BTCS was a close second for Spoon but it gets played at least a few times every couple of years.

    UTTAD

Half of that album contains some of my favorites to hear live (BOWA, Warehouse, Typical, Nancies, R&R), throw in the classics (WWYS, Ants, Jimi, and Satellite) and then the excellent mellow rarities (#34, Pay For, and Lover Lay Down)

BTCS because it has the most songs I've seen the least despite Crash being my favorite album. BTCS songs always seem like treats at a show. Plus I desperately wish I heard Spoon live.

This is tough. I've completed BTCS so I'll throw it out even though I'd love it in full at a show. It comes down to Busted Stuff (song) vs. Cry Freedom vs. #34. I'm going to vote Busted Stuff because as an album I've seen it less than UTTAD and Crash plus it has my #1 song, Bartender, and You Never Know and Raven!

Re: Complete single studio album at one show?

This thread is offering an interesting result in the comments so far. There are two very distinct schools of thought forming (in reality those are the only two ways to look at this poll.) Are you more likely to vote for an album based on checking off songs heard live to complete an album or wanting to hear an album in its entirety because that is an album you love and hearing all of those songs in one show would be enjoyable?

Based on that argument, I am leaning more to the latter, and I would have to go with UTTAD, slightly over Crash and BTCS. From a studio perspective, I tend to listen to Crash and BTCS more, but live there are more songs off UTTAD that I would enjoy hearing.

BTCS because The Stone is at the top of my DMB hierarchy as far as songs go and no song even comes close. I'd rather hear The Stone and give up a few of my other favorites that appear on other albums.

My favorite album is Crash, so I would choose that.

Close second would be Everyday because I think those songs sound better in a live setting. FTT has been fun each time I've heard it and IIHIA would be a great treat to see live (always sounds great on tapes).

BTCS --- I just don't enjoy alot of the material with the current state of DMB when compared to years prior. PNP and Rapunzel seem to have lost that great edge. Crush sounds good, but it seems to lack that freeness in the air. LS sounded great this year, but it's always hit or miss live, more often miss. Can go on and on. Crash has, to me at least, always sounded like a bright and upbeat album, so the Crash songs sound pretty alright with the current DMB.

I've always thought they should do a caravan-like series, probably in Charlottesville, SPAC or The Gorge, where they perform their entire discography. Two albums a night, over a week or so. No repeats. And they could even randomize the setlist so the two albums are mixed together. They could do it the next time they take a summer off so it gives them enough time to practice old songs or songs they never play. Tell me people wouldn't come from all over the place to see it. But, I doubt they would ever go for something like this.

Weezer did this with Blue Album and Pinkerton a couple of years ago; went to the Pinkerton show. Basically they did two sets - first with a smattering of stuff new, old and Blue Album. Set break. Then the band came out dressed like 1996 and did Pinkerton front to back.

I also saw Blink 182 do this with their self-titled 2004 album. They did the full album and the encore saw like 6 random songs.

Also, obviously, Bruce just did it with the River and that album is 19 songs long AND Bruce would do like 10 songs after.

We all see U2 is doing this with Joshua Tree...

Honestly, it is totally reasonable DMB will do this but I would bet it is with Crash. 2021 summer tour, 25th anniversary of the Crash album, and I bet you it will be the first time in a decade DMB is a truly hard ticket to get.

    8 song random set
    20 minute break
    Crash in full
    encore

Setlist watchers and diehard fans would hate it, everyone in attendance would love it.

Those "band announces tour where they do a whole album" screams of novelty to sell tickets. I don't know why Bruce and U2 did/are doing it considering they don't have problems selling tickets.

If DMB needs to sell tickets would an all "pick-whatever-Big 3 album" set sell? Seems like a lot of fans who are the party-goers tend to like Big Whiskey the most. Would they still go? Would fans who might have fallen by the wayside show up for an all album set of BTCS?

It totally is a novelty to sell tickets but if U2 and Bruce are doing it...

I agree all fans would probably want 'the Big 3' but that doesn't really fit a tour campaign.

And, yes, I think Crash in its entirety would attract party goers, fans who haven't been to a show in 15 years and everyone in between. I believe you would sell out across the country in a 50 stop tour. The only losers would be those of us who go to multiple shows every year.

Think of a friend of yours who doesn't hate DMB but really isn't into the idea of going to a show in 2017(18). Now imagine telling that person they are playing Crash front to back. Do you think they now want to go?
