It's a fact. It's hilarious how legendary directors see him as a visionary, someone who is doing things with the camera that they couldn't even think of doing. Sure, he's not the best at dialogue, but there is SO much more to film than that. The angles he gets are amazing, same with various other camera workings.

James Cameron, Raimi, Fincher and Spielberg (to name a few) use shots he innovated. No one is probably going to use him as a prime example of storytelling, but the guy has two movies released by the Criterion Collection for godssake.

I find his style bombastic and insulting, particularly the editing because I can never tell WTF is going on, particularly in the Transformers movies.

Transformers is on TV right now, I love it. Now, Revenge of the Fallen isn't good — in fact, it's mostly quite bad — but the first film is brilliantly shot and Dark of the Moon is everything Avengers ought to have been.

If BB3 doesn't single handedly launch Michael Bay into the upper echelon of all time great filmmakers (Hitchcock, Coppola, Spielberg, Kubrick) I will throw away my Criterion Collection edition of Armageddon without even blinking. Well, first I'll buy a copy on ebay for $2.50 used and then I'll turn right around and throw it away.

2 observations

1. does Wahlberg need a paycheck this badly?

2. while watching the commercial last night, we were trying to figure out if it was a poorly CGI'd commercial done on purpose to be ridiculous (like the Ford commercial series), or if it was a real movie trailer. Couldnt believe it turned out to be a real trailer

meh... maybe it's more of an ego thing. I know I can't readily think of what was the last real big blockbuster money maker that he was a part of. I mean even though it's almost a certainty that the actual movie itself will be mediocre at best, we all know how likely it is it'll make major bank.

they could use a cardboard cutout for the lead actor (and did for the 1st 3 movies) and it would bank $100mm. I cant possibly see how doing the 4th movie of a terrible franchise could be an ego boost
