Peter is right, yet again! You'd think he has this stuff figured out. And he does, he helped me tremendously in Oakland last year. My buddy left his WH tickets in Seattle, and he knew exactly who to contact (on a Saturday).
We order early through WH simply because we know we are going every year since we live here, and I'd rather spend my hunting time on other destination shows I'm going to. Though it probably doesn't take much effort at all to find WH Lawns later. We definitely wait for our camping pass (D-9), or we buy at the gate.
We also use the WH lawn section, and it's usually pretty nice, great view/spot typically. But if you get there somewhat early (doesn't even need to be too early), you can get better spots. We have a group of 10-15+ people every year, so we naturally end up walking into the venue much later than we would prefer. The terrace at the bottom looks like the best spot in the venue, but with that group we NEVER make it that early.
