Colorad-NO 2016

I don't get it. I know they seem to skip every other year, but if they are done in 2017, then they will most likely skip CO again in 2018, and it will be 4 years before they return. I am basing this solely on the 2012 tour after the 2011 break.

If they sold out all 2 shows here last year, which they only sold out 4 or 5 all last tour, why would they not come back? Is is really just the travel/distance thing?

Are they going to play Red Rocks in late September and announce it later?

Just want to vent. I'm bummed about it.

i would guess there is either something unannounced in the works, or maybe the venues just couldn't offer them what they were looking for. time will tell.

Or if they do come back in '18, they'll do something then since it's been three years at that point.

I hate this. The promoter doesn't want it? Wtf does that mean? Colorado IS ALWAYS amazing. Even if they pick a crappy venue like dicks. With the band's history here its borderline criminal.

At least there are a bunch of good shows I'm seeing at red rocks this year. I'd go with my wife to DMB, but most of these shows she won't go so I'm actually under my summer concert budget still. I bought tickets to the infamous stringdusters and portugal the man(w/wife) after the dates were released.

    For sure:
JJ Grey & Mofro/Infamous Stringdusters coheadling
Devil Makes Three w/ Shakey Graves & The Wood Brothers
Portugal the man w/ Glass Animals
Greensky Bluegrass w/Leftover Salmon (got the 2 day pass for the show in boulder)
    Avett Brothers w/Guy Clark Jr.

    Maybes:
    Ben Harper
    Tedeschi Trucks Band
    Jason Isbell w/ Lucero

I got tix to the Warren Haynes/Grateful Dead/Colorado Symphony and the Tedecschi Trucks band. Both at Red Rocks.

    So freaking dumb.

I have grown used to DMB not coming to Colorado anymore, which is pretty sad. I am sure the WH is happy i have donated 35 bucks every year to their cause since 1998, but no way am I really interested to travel to see them anymore. Since now their biggest fan base is older and have families and kids, like myself. Love DMB, but I because of them pretty much passing on Colorado over the last 10 years, I have got into many other bands because of it.

    I wouldn't take it this far... They've played 4 shows in 2005, 2 in 2006, 1, in 2008, 1 in 2010, 2, in 2013, and 2 in 2015.

That's 12 total shows in 10 years. I think they have an enormous fan base here, so I'm always confused as to why they alternate years since 2003. It has to be promoter and venue issues. Fiddlers Green might have sold out because it was too small? Dick's is the worst venue in the world, and Red Rocks is just never ever happening again because the management hates having fun and hates the fans having fun.

Fiddlers is perfect for DMB. One of the nights had tickets available about a week out from the show. After how well last year went (sans the will call fiasco) I was a bit surprised they skipped it.

Fiddler's Green isn't that small, really. I think it holds 17,000-ish. I could never understand why Fiddler's Green wasn't a 2 night stand every year, it's a guaranteed sellout. Colorado is a huge market for DMB (and most jam bands). It's been said the promoter doesn't want the same acts coming to Denver during consecutive years, because he wants to keep the talent pool diversified.

Seems like a missed opportunity for all parties. Fiddler's Green could've been a 2 nighter all along, or Red Rocks could've been a 3 nighter year after year after year and it would've sold out each time. Leaving money on the table!

They schedule a 4 week break then come back for 6 nights to finish the tour, that makes no sense. I would expect a later announcement about Colorado.

if dmb and management were smart, they'd do a 3-4 show/ night run at Red Rocks 2-3 weeks after the gorge to celebrate the 25th anniversary

Does it make sense? kinda. They want to play Gorge Labor Day Weekend, but don't want to tour continuously from May to September. So they take a month off then come back for the Gorge and a few nights local to the Gorge. It's been pretty routine for a while now.

That would be awesome. I've been waiting for that to happen since 2006. I don't think it's very likely though, but fingers crossed. Probably going to end up heading to the gorge unless they release Colorado dates before ticket sales.

It doesn't really make sense, no. But they have been doing it and are doing it again this year. Why take a month off and then play 6 shows in 2 weeks? That doesn't make sense.

I don't know what else you'd rather them do. The tour essentially ends after WPB, and then they go to the gorge for Labor Day and the Greek or wherever it is the following weekend. Doesn't make sense to haul everything out there for a weekend in August only to have to go back to the gorge a month later.

At the end of the day it's BS. If people can complain about set lists all day long, then we can complain about not coming to Colorado.

It's a frigging joke and as several others have mentioned, it's a damn shame. I, too, have a family and a super public/big job and cannot be traveling all over the country to see them. I'm doing everything I can to try and get the wife and I to Cali to see them. Between work and my two toddlers, it's damn near impossible to leave town for anything.

    Do what's right, Dave!

It's stupid their skipping CO, sure. It's not stupid they're taking a month off though, which was the conversation at hand.

dave's family typically travels to WPB and they go on vacation that following week. its a nice time to get away from the 2+ months of touring. the tour schedule used to be different too though, so it wasn't just 6 shows to end it. there were years when the texas shows were at the end, after gorge. they also used to play like 6 shows just in CA, along with gorge, arizona, tx, and denver. but the ticket sales aren't there to do that anymore.

there isn't much between kansas city and california other than denver, unless you go down south. with texas starting the tours lately, they'd be going half way across the country just for a handful of shows on the other side with nothing much to break up the drive other than a weekend in denver. and then they'd have to kill a month out on the west coast to hit gorge for labor day. might as well take a break in south florida for a few weeks. playing 6 shows in 2 weeks rather than 3 or 4 weeks means everybody is aware from their families less.
