Well, it's just what I got out of it. But let me clear... I'm not saying you were wrong. I respect differing takes on this kind of stuff, but I appreciate you taking the time to consider an alternate point of view. I certainly contemplated yours. Matter of fact, I remember watching the film and wondering why he wasn't breaking up along with the ship. The whole thing was trippy as hell and I loved watching that scene and loving every second of my head spinning and wondering what the hell was going on. I did have a flash of 'no fucking way, this is bullshit' going through my head during the big black nothing part.

Yeah, I had similar thoughts about TDKR also. Once a character has lost everything they had to live for, it's better drama to have them live than to have them die.

Here's the score from the docking scene, so intense. I was already pissed enough that Zimmer didn't even get nominated for his Inception score, but if he gets left out again this year, then the terrorists have won.

Definitely enjoyed it even more upon further viewing now that I had more of a grasp on WTF was going on. Caught a lot more details about the plot and understood more dialogue about why they had to enter the black hole, and the tesseract bit made a lot more sense. Still would have preferred a full sacrifice of life by Cooper instead of the "happy" ending. I think it would have been much more profound since throughout the entire film, he's faced with the choice to save humanity or see his daughter again, and then he somehow succeeds on both fronts through sheer happenstance. Maybe Nolan figured the audience had been through enough intense emotion that we didn't need the hero to die. That's my one big complaint about the film. Other than that, it's quite the viewing experience.

Best three sequences are still the countdown, Cooper watching the video messages after 23+ years, and the docking sequence after Matt Damon fucks everything up. Seriously, with the risk of being a little too hyperbolic, the docking sequence might be one of the most stunning scenes put to film in a very, very long time. When you combine the tension of the moment, Zimmer's almost gothic-soundinng organ score, and then the visuals of the Endurance spinning and the Ranger trying to catch up, it's absolutely mind blowing. I found myself holding my breath throughout that scene again tonight, it's that good. /gush

Other visuals of the Endurance spinning in Earth/Saturn/Black Hole orbit, as well as the speck of light that is the Endurance passing by Saturn and its rings should be the benchmark for space film visual effects from now on. I also get the biggest nerd boner ever when space films get it right and don't have any sound whatsoever while showing "outdoor" shots in space. Gravity and Interstellar are basically the only films to get that right that I know of, and I love it.

The score makes the movie. Movie alone is incredible but the score is unbelievable. One of my favrorite music scene is when they are passing Saturn and the thunderstorm is playing in the ear buds. Gives you chills.

I've seen it three times now since last Tuesday. Wish we had an Imax back home.

I was completely wrong on this one, Zimmer was nominated for his Inception score.

Speaking of Hans Zimmer, here are some photos of his home studio:

    It's pretty amazing.

Saw this on Sunday. Thought to was good, but not fantastic.

Also, is the general consensus that this was better visually than Gravity? Because I certainly didn't think so.

I don't know... I thought it was apples and oranges myself. Both are great but very different. Gravity was less practical.. More CGI, and made for 3D. I'm not a fan of 3D.

Agreed there. Gravity was great CGI porn, no doubt, but Interstellar's effects were much more grounded in reality.

Finally got it last night. He was yelling "stay" before Tars told him "we didn't come to change the past." I thought he was telling himself to stay, but he couldn't stay because you can't change the past. Took me a while. It seems pretty simple but the film makes you think so much you skip out on the easy stuff.

Neil Degrasse Tyson explains things pretty well in this video, although it's a bit of a long watch. Girl asking questions is about as smart as my shoelace.

This really got screwed by the Oscars. Should have gotten nominations for Best Picture and Director.

I agree a best picture nomination should have come for Interstellar, but not the win... I haven't seen everything that's nominated, and can't really tell you how they all stack up to each other, but I'm pretty much on board with Boyhood as best picture...

But I do think you could make a helluva case for best director. Nolans most emotional delivery yet but the technical part of it is really where he won it in my book.

The one category where the film was robbed? Cinematography. In my opinion it deserves the win and it wasn't even fucking nominated! What the hell?

At least it should have been nominated over Imitation Game... Imitation Game is a decent movie but not really Best Picture material.

Ok, went to see this again, and I enjoyed it even more the second time around. All the criticisms had weighed on my perception of the movie, and after seeing it again, I'm struck again with what's the big deal with all of that? Absolutlely should've gotten a nomination. Some absolutely beautiful moments.

I'm shocked it didn't receive a best picture nomination. I really hope it wins best score. One of my favorites I've ever heard.

Zimmer's score for Interstellar is light years (see what I did there?) better than anything else I've heard this year. But unfortunately, the award will go to some generic orchestral score from one of the Oscar bait films instead. He got robbed with Inception, he's going to get robbed with this one.

I definitely think the score should win the Oscar and I was surprised when it didn't win the Golden Globe. It's not all that often that I come out of a movie where an original score left a memorable impression on me, but it did in Interstellar.

    This^

The score made that movie. Well, didn't "make" it but it took that movie from a 9 to a 10 for me. We've talked about it before but the music during the docking scene had me on the edge of my seat. That's how films should be made.

What I can't stand (until it happens to someone I feel is deserving for prior snubs) is how they'll award someone in an individual category for some other category or sometimes past snubs. The whole Ben Affleck and Argo was an example. I don't remember who was up for the award that year, and I thought it was an excellent film.. but for some reason I thought it was an upset win and 'payback' to the academy for snubbing Ben's best director nomination for that film too.

At the end of the day, I don't really care... this hollywood we're talking about here, just saying that these are all reasons I think the Oscars are just "political" bullshit. Hollywood politics.. not real world.

I still say Roger Deakins is past due to win the cinematography award. So many times has he been snubbed for an inferior film. The man is the first cinematographer I have ever taken note of, and he's a legend. If he gets an upset win, I won't be offended in the least. So I'm a hypocrite because I'd be ok with that one.

I also say it's a travesty that a Nolan film with IMAX hasn't won the cinematography award, and Interstellar wasn't even nominated. That's just wrong. He pioneered the format, and I'd put TDK and Interstellar up there as "should've wons" in the year they were eligible for their use of IMAX alone.

Watched again last night. What's the significance of the Indian Air Force drone? Complete waste of time.

And how much of a Tech B he is, along with his daughter-in-training helping him. Foreshadowing bigger things they could use their skills on.

Definitely that and partly to show how smart Cooper is.

I just looked at his list of films, and I can't believe he's never won.
