Quality ending to a quality season. I haven't watched S3 yet but Asylum is still probably my favorite so far.

Loved the finale. It's right up there with season 1 for me, slightly behind it because I enjoyed the subject a little more in the first season. That scene with Dandy taking a walk around the Freak Show... wow. Probably my favorite scene from any season.

Now that the season is over:

Murder House > Freak Show >>> Coven >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Asylum

Really bummed to see Maggie go off like that. Loved NPH but he should have been factored into more of the season. His ending was a bit abrupt at the hospital. Dandy should have finished him off

If it wasn't for the fact that season 1 was so good and I had faith Ryan Murphy could bounce back, I would have given up on the series as a whole after Asylum. I stopped watching mid-season I was so bored.

As for your first spoilered post... I agree, and they nailed it when they finally did it.

As for your second spoilered post... I was also a little disappointed that character wasn't revisited at all last night.

Pretty happy with the season overall. 3rd favorite...probably tied with season 1, maybe just a tad behind it

really enjoyed the finale, but the ending was so unsatisfying. Elsa didn't deserve a happy ending IMO. I was hoping for Elsa to be booed off the stage, Papa Legba to show up- indicating that she was to be laughed at for all eternity. They blew it IMO. But overall a cool season.

Overall, a pretty solid season.

2/3 tie-Murder House/Freak Show
4-Coven

(I know most people don't like Asylum but I really enjoyed it for whatever reason.)

Binge watched the first half of season four today with the girl.

Not holding up. Probably my least favorite season tied with Asylum. Which is weird because Asylum is her favorite.

Murder House was just kind of "meh" to me. Don't get me wrong, it was good and I enjoyed it, but the haunted house theme has been played out.

I don't know how anyone could enjoy Asylum with the insane amount of plotholes. Unwatchable.

I agree. Feels like Murder House was the only complete season. All the other seasons feel like they had a treatment for three or four episodes and started production but then they just sort of winged it from there.

Freak show kinda proves this because the most complete/best part of the season is the first four episodes up to and including the Halloween Mondrake episodes. After Twisty was killed off, everything fell a part. And although I love NPH, his episodes seemed just thrown in the mix with not much thought to the plot as a gimmick (or because he said he wanted to be involved).

And that finale was just horrible.

I disagree completely on the finale. I loved it from top to bottom. You're under the assumption it was a happy ending for Elsa... it's not. You think she got what she wanted but she didn't, she's dead, and she died a miserable bitch. The whole season she fought to get away from what she was to be this huge star and in the end, she ends up being who she was: a mom to all the freaks destined to live in a circus tent the rest of her life. Oh, and dead.

It's hard for me to rank the seasons because they all featured some iconically great television moments, but none of their wholes were greater than the sum of their parts. If I had to take a stab at it:

1. Coven
2. Murder House
3. Freak Show
4. Asylum

Dandy moved his way to the very top of my AHS character list though.

Of the future ideas I've seen speculated, the two I like the most are Summer Camp (an obvious homage to Friday the 13th) and Doll House (House of Wax/Puppet Master/Dolls). Although they've already touched upon the latter concept with Spalding in Coven.

A mortuary or an orphanage are also enticing settings.
