i am a drummer and, i don't know if this is what's happening with carter on the recording, sometimes when the chain on your bass pedal gets loose, the pedal hangs a little lower and so when you push your foot down, the pedal hits the metal part that links the pedal with the bass drum right as you are about to strike the drum head. it makes a metallic clicking type of sound right as or before the beater strikes the drum head.
idk if someone already said that but this happens to me all the time and i've definitely heard it in some of the live recordings

1. I'm sure carters DW 9000's arent bottoming out, but you also get that sound when you play quick beats and lift your foot off the pedal, and allow slack, and you hear a click when the chain is pulled taught, be it from the chain or the cam being hit by the chain...but thats not this sound, this sound in the CP cd is just the high end setting to give the bass drum definition so it doesnt just sound like a booming thunderstorm when he goes to town....
2. and being a Bengals fan, and still being in disbelief myself, I just dont see why chris henry's girl had to listen to central park that day...
