Re: ESPN layoffs commence today

BLM isn't a political issue? That's an interesting take. Okay, I guess ESPN isn't breaking down actual legislation, so if that's your definition then you're right. However, culture and politics are intertwined so I'm not sure how you differentiate the two. Regardless, I don't buy the idea that urban NBA fans are the only demographic still watching sports on TV.

ESPN just seems like it's going the MTV route anyways and we see how that turned out. Either way though I think ESPN is a sinking ship, regardless of it's politics. It's a dying business model and once live sports shift to web-based broadcating that will be the end of ESPN as we know it.

I like the MTV original programming way more then the ESPN stuff nowadays.

Edit:that has nothing to do with anything, I'm mostly just saying words.

Like, "2017 New Years Resolutions for White Guys"?

I agree that ESPN is headed towards becoming MTV, in a horrible way.

i just realized its been forever since i watched SC, and I probably used to watch it 2-3x per day. I generally get my highlights on Facebook or twitter at this point, but it's also lead to a very-much decreased knowledge of what's going on in baseball in particular

That game is almost always a tester game to see if a team can work. Hardly anyone watches it anyway. No harm, no foul.

So let me ask, did you stop watching because you actively didn't like the programming direction they were going in, or just because you didn't have to watch to see highlights of the sports you wanted to due to Facebook, Twitter and the like?

she's not bad - she makes a few mistakes but she's not the worst play by play person they have. I don't have a problem with that.

I've stopped watching and listening because I am really sick of the "hot take" WWE type mentality of all of their talking heads. Stephen A. Smith is the personification of why I stopped watching ESPN. Same reason I refuse to watch Skip Bayless on FS1...ESPN's main personalities are basically cartoon characters at this point.

yeah the hot take mentality is a cancer in sports media and it's everywhere now, ESPN, FS1, it's turned me off from watching except for live sports

I guess that's what PTI and Around the Horn are to some degree and I used to watch them a lot but those shows had more likeable characters than Skip and Stephen A so it didn't bother me

That's an awful article only because I work in the TV/entertainment industry and I've seen shit like that go down (not where I currently work luckily). I was once told "people want to see more bounce passes and less dunks" by a suit that had never stepped foot in an edit room before and couldn't identify an all-star that was being used in image on the slideshow he was presenting. I really feel for the FS folks.

Britt McMurphy claims she was let go because she's a conservative. I am guessing the other 100 or so people let go were also conservative. Probably had nothing to do she was mediocre at her job, and was caught on camera demeaning an employee of a tow yard though.
