Tell ya what, Ben. I'll text you from the Hyatt in SF to see how you're doing?

By the way - how the hell are you? Looks like we're just going to do this one this year - along with your home venue.

We have a crew of about ten doing the same thing. I am going to be useless at work the Tuesday after Labor Day.

Sounds like a plan. I like to live on the edge. Plus there is an In-n-Out across the freeway. All about location.

I am doing well. Moved to NYC last summer, so life is moving in new directions. Jealous that you are hitting these shows. So much fun on 08, great venue. Loved the shots from Paris you posted. My wife is taking French and studying architectural history, and my son is enamored with Europe right now, so I see a trip across the Pond in our near future.

    How is life treating you?

Still putzing along here in Phoenix. Still hate this place. Congrats on the move -love NYC. Love Paris more, though. Funny - one of the things I really love about the city is the architecture there. So yeah - you need to get over there pronto. Its a magical place.

Will miss seeing ya at Berkeley and Irvine. Tell the band to add MSG - we'll be there in a heartbeat for that.

Exactly why we are working on making it happen. One of the great things about NYC is all the people that we have met, people from all over the world. My wife was getting help from someone here in the neighborhood with her French... and wouldn't you know it she is married to someone from France. They are planning on moving their in a few months, so we may have place to stay when we go. Finger crossed.

That'd be awesome! I just love the place. Been there twice in the last 15 months. My wife says we need to expand our horizons and see other places in Europe. lol We did do a day trip to Brugges (amazing city - well worth a day trip). And we did hit up Tuscany last year. But yeah - again - I can't recommend visiting Paris enough.

Wooohooo!! What a sweet surprise this announcement was!

Last show I saw at the Greek had seat assignments. Any tips on when to show up for GA seating? Not a huge fan of the lawn here.

In '08 I think I was getting in line around 2 or so. I loved the spot we got each night...in that first row of the low steps, just beyond the floor. It was great to be so close, yet not in the madness of the floor, and also slightly elevated (since I'm a shorty).

Of course for other shows, I haven't had to get there early at all to get those seats...but for DMB, yep, gotta be there early.

    Just booked my hotel at
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Berkeley Marina
3.5 miles from the venue. 15 min drive

Gonna have to wait till public sale to get tickets. :/ Just hoping I can get tickets to the show early. Excited about going. Was planning on Gorge for the longest but this seems more plausible for me to do.

Want to do this and hope I get confirmed. These are the only shows I can make. It would suck to not be able to attend because someone who's been to 15 shows over the summer gets to go all three nights an "outbids" me.

Based on anyone's 2008 experience, what time do you need to line up to get a seat and avoid lawn? Also, do they let you brown bag any booze in line? If 2-3 people from a group of 10 wait in line, does anyone have issues with saving seats (with blankets, etc)?

We were in line pretty early everyday, want to say around 3:00 - 4:00. Been a few years, so it may have been later. We saved seats every day for people, about 10-12 spots on 3-4 rows. Threw down jackets, shoes, magazines, blankets, what ever we had.

Best thing to do, if you can, is get something of your friends to hold their seat, like their jacket. This way they have something to look for and you can tell other people that belongs to someone else, because it does.

Thanks! What kind of seats can you typically get if you line up around 3-4 like you mentioned?

Was gona make this trip from Chicago, but not anymore after finding out its GA only. Do not want to waste a trip to Cali waiting in line all day for decent seats. Love this Venue, but not enough to wait in line all day.

I showed up around 6 for the '08 shows and I was still able to find a decent spot on the floor. Everybody crowds together/stands up once the opener comes on, so maybe you're not on the rail, but you still have a pretty good perspective.

Night 1 and 3, we were house left, just off center, first 5 rows. Night 2, house right, almost center, about half way up.

So the floor is not seats? Assumed everything was except for lawn. Nice.

How did they police crowd size on the floor/pit? Anyone could walk up at any time or did they wristband the first X number of people that chose to hit the floor?

In 08, first come, first railed. The floor was wide open, and it is pretty good size floor. Since the whole place was GA, you went where you wanted. There was a large part of the early line that was there for posters and the floor.

This is a great site for anyone looking for info on Berkeley:
    http://toupstown.com/CA_Berkeley.php

The image all show seats on the floor, but imagine the whole area open.

No wristbands in '08, but pits were less common at DMB shows then. However, if the entire venue is GA, I think wristbands would be pointless.

There's a half-circle-shaped space directly in front of the stage that is standing-room only. Behind that are the concrete benches, disabled seating and the 20-ish Grecian "throne" chairs in stadium-style seating. The throne chairs are almost as coveted as the front row.

The lawn is at the top of the venue, small and steep. The tradeoff is that it offers a gorgeous view of the Bay at sunset.

Edit: I'm trying to find a picture. All the Toupstown ones are great, but show folding chairs on the floor, so you don't really get an accurate picture.

OK, this gives a good view.

This is from the concrete benches. They are pretty unforgiving on the ol' rear end, but you won't be sitting there long over the course of the show.

Most important here, though, is that you can see the floor without the folding chairs. There's the open, half-circle area and a series of little steps encircling it like ripples in a pond. That's the prime real estate.

Katy mentioned standing on one of those stairs. You might be a little further back, but you're a head above everyone. It's a sweet deal.

The worst place to sit is way off to the side on the concrete benches. You're pretty much at a 90-degree angle to the stage.

Wow, that's cool. Thanks for the details. So is it safe to assume that you could walk in between 6-7:00 and just head to the back of the pit with no problem?

    Can't wait.

    That's how I did it in '08. I didn't have any problem.

Spot on. Where the pop up tents are in the shot, we sat above and to the right of those N2 in 08. The 3rd or 4th section from the right in that pic is where N1 and N3. Awesome view, above the pit, close to the aisle for beer and pee runs.

I think these shows started the whole GA pit thing. They came about I think the following summer for all venues.

Of course for other shows, I haven't had to get there early at all to get those seats...but for DMB, yep, gotta be there early.
Thanks for the info! I seriously cannot wait for this!
