"Stand Up" not allowed on the IPOD

See my other thread but you cant import the album to your itunes. i did research and tried converting everything possible..it just doesnt work due to rca's decision to make this a "protected wma" file.

the confirmation that i was correct was in this statement.

Question:
iPod Compatibility:
I noticed the iPod is not a device supported by the Windows Media DRM. How can I get my music onto my iPod?
Answer:
Apple's proprietary technology doesn't support secure music formats other than their own, and therefore the secure music file formats on this disc can't be directly imported into iTunes or iPods.

While these discs aren't currently compatible with iTunes or iPod, we are actively working on an acceptable solution, and have reached out to Apple in hopes of addressing this issue. To help speed this effort, we ask that you use the following link to contact Apple and ask them to provide a solution that would easily allow you to move content from protected CDs into iTunes or onto your iPod: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html

Re: "Stand Up" not allowed on the IPOD

It's most likely due to the Digital Rights Management (DRM). Microsoft and Windows has always advocated very strict and arguably unfair DRM restrictions on music files, whereas Apple's AAC restrictions (Share with three computers, burn to a CD 10 times, maybe others) are much more loose. I highly doubt that contacting Apple will do anything as it is a philosophical difference; certainly someone at Apple could develop the codec to place restrictions on files, they just don't want to.

That said, the best option will be to look for a program that will break the DRM on the files. The legality of this is debatable. On one hand, if you have purchased the music, many argue that it is yours to own and change to whatever format you wish. Others would say that it is essentially hacking and a copyright violation. If you look at your CD packaging and can't find any note that the files included were going to have restrictions placed on them, you should be entitled to a full refund.

Just about every type of restriction process on CDs have been hacked or cracked, so if you look around you should find a way to convert them to .mp3's or something.

Re: "Stand Up" not allowed on the IPOD

um, you can rip the CD straight to mp3, AAC, or wav via iTunes. No problem at all.

Once you have done that, either of those three formats will play fine on your iPod.

Look, just rip it in mp3 format (not WMA). Add it to your iTunes library. From there, add it to your iPod.

Is it the dualdisc or cd that didn't rip? A lot of people have had problems ripping dualdiscs as they aren't cds.

But, seriously, has anyone with a Mac successfully ripped the Dual-Disc audio into iTunes? That is my biggest concern with all these new threads floating around about Stand Up being incompatible with iTunes.

Try different ripping programs if iTunes doesn't work. Maybe they have blocked certain copies, I dunno, but obviously some people are getting it to work. Once you have the mp3s, you can load them in iTunes.

Re: "Stand Up" not allowed on the IPOD

It's on my iPod as well. I ripped the original CD using EAC, which apparently bypasses the 'lock' or whatever on the disc. Copy protection, my ass.

Re: "Stand Up" not allowed on the IPOD

ok...here is how you do it easily...

Your ticket 008970 has been Answered

Thank you for contacting us, Scott. We appreciate your purchase of the Dave Matthews Band CD and apologize for any inconvenience.

While this CD has not yet been released, the record company has left a back door to transfer to the iPod once the disc has been released.

Please follow the instructions below in order to move your content into iTunes and onto an iPod:

If you have a Mac computer you can copy the songs using your iTunes Player as you would normally do.

If you have a PC place the CD into your computer and allow the CD to automatically start. If the CD does not automatically start, open your Windows Explorer, locate the drive letter for your CD drive and double-click on the LaunchCD.exe file located on your CD.

Once the application has been launched and the End User License Agreement has been accepted, you can click the Copy Songs button on the top menu.

Follow the instructions to copy the secure Windows Media Files (WMA) to your PC. Make a note of where you are copying the songs to, you will need to get to these secure Windows Media Files in the next steps.

Once the WMA files are on your PC you can open and listen to the songs with Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher. You may also play them in any compatible player that can play secure Windows Media files, such as MusicMatch, RealPlayer, and Winamp, but it will require that you obtain a license to do so. To obtain this license, from the Welcome Screen of the user interface, click on the link below the album art that says If your music does not play in your preferred player, click here. Follow the instructions to download the alternate license.

Using Windows Media Player only, you can then burn the songs to a CD. Please note that in order to burn the files, you need to upgrade to or already have Windows Media Player 9 or greater.

Once the CD has been burned, place the copied CD back into your computer and open iTunes. iTunes can now rip the songs as you would a normal CD.

Please note an easier and more acceptable solution requires cooperation from Apple, who we have already reached out to in hopes of addressing this issue. To help speed this effort, we ask that you use the following link to contact Apple and ask them to provide a solution that would easily allow you to move content from protected CDs into iTunes or onto your iPod rather than having to go through the additional steps above. http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html

Thank you.

Rob

Looks good, but one question--would all of this copying and ripping cause a loss in music quality? I'm not that up to speed on how to preserve music quality, so I just wanted to ask.

Ripping to wma and converting to mp3 will deteriorate the quality. Just use EAC and rip straight to your preferred format.

This EUL BS is ridiculous.
