Ok Terry Bozio....

I just hope you've got even an ounce of skills to play that kit like it should be played.

Too bad this guys kit doesn't resemble Terry Bozzio's one bit & assuming your a DMB fan I'd want to think you'd immediately notice how similar this guy's setup is to Carter's.

I'm just guessing here but I really feel like Carter is your main inspiration when it comes to drumming. I hope you're in a DMB cover band

Re: new pics of my drumkit

I actually do use all of this kit..............it is used like it should be. I don't have all this equipment just to say "I have a Carter sized kit." A lot of people do have huge kits and just have them for show, but I'm not one of those people. As for how long it took me to get it, I bought everything from January 2005 to February 2006. It's probably costed me between 5 and 6 thousand? Carter is in fact my main influence, and I do throw in a LOT of Carter licks in my playing, but I try to add some of my own stuff. Thanks for the replies!

Re: new pics of my drumkit

Cool man....def. looks like great kit. I used to have a huge kit as well but when i play out it gets so annoying carting case after case from gig to gig so i dropped a few drums and cymbals down...but part of me still misses the big kit.

Re: new pics of my drumkit

What kind of drums are those? Pearl EX? ELX? Nice set up.

But....

***Flameworthy posting ahead***

Well, if being a total copycat is your thing, then go ahead.
Personally I prefer some originally in a drumkit setup. If you're playing a DMB coverband, that's a different story.

I know Carter is a big influence on you and Carter is a huge influence of mine, even got me playing left hand lead. Do I set my kit up like him? Negative. The only similarities are the ride on the left hand side. Neil Peart is also a big influence, but I don't need his kit.

Personally, unless it's a big name drummer (Carl Parlmer, Bozzio, Beauford, Peart, Portnoy), I am never impressed by a large kit. Too many people have big kits and claim to use it all - and actually dont.

That said...
Nice setup, but next time try an original set up.

Re: new pics of my drumkit

Beautiful kit. The color is nice also. Even though it's replicating Carter's, that's ok. If I had the money and time and a place to put it, I'd probably do the same with my kit.

thanks a lot man! I really didnt' want to be a "copycat", but I had a lot of different drum setups before switching to "Carter's setup", and I have found that is the most comfortable. I guess I'll jus have to live with the "Carter copier" label

Re: new pics of my drumkit

I like big sets, and I am in no position to say if you have the ability to use it all or not since i've never heard you play...but i must say i really wish you would have SOME originality in your setup. It really is just a mockup, slightly smaller, version of Carter's setup...right down to the color and how you have the Agogo bells set up. My set is definitely Carter influenced but, since I started drumming well before I became a DMB fan or even knew who carter was...I am unwilling to completely change the way i play or set up my set...there are just some not so subtle signs of his influence on my set.

I uploaded some pics of my set for you to judge me and my Carter copying/original ideas. The cymbal to the left is not a ride...it is a crash that I use for swells and rolls as an effect. The roto tom is also used only as an effect drum.

Re: new pics of my drumkit

I see you have two chinas mounted on top of each other, I always wanted to do that but figured it would be so loud my entire street would move hosue, is it really as loud as I expect them to be?

This is my kit http://jwilloug.spymac.com/drumkitstudio.JPG

[quote= Too many people have big kits and claim to use it all - and actually dont.
[/quote]

I have a big kit because everything has it's different use, I have two rides, one is sharp and pingy and the other is a wash of sound, two crashes one is higher pitched than the other, you cant get by with one crash it just sounds boring, all small cymbals add good accent notes but again you need variety, I play all kinds of music styles so its good to have different pitches of toms.

Re: new pics of my drumkit

There is nothing wrong with a drummer playing what they want to play.. If someone wants to play 20 toms and 75 cymbals so be it.. Why give a drummer shit for having alot of drums and cymbals. Shit I used to set my shit up exactly like Carters. I loved playing that way. It was different and it opened up a whole new world. Now was it practical to play that way with so many drums and cymbals , NO. Was it fickin cool to jam on a Carter Replica kit. FUCK YEAH!!!!
