Help with a DVD I burned that won't play in stand alone

Ok so here is the deal, I DLed a RHCP show off bootcity or tradersden (can't remember which one) and I went ahead and burned it to a DVD. It plays in my computer and other computers but will not play in a standalone (I checked on the two I have) It gives me a message error NO NSTC, not sure what this means, it appears that all the necessary files are there. I tried both DVD+R and DVD-R. Any thoughts?

Re: Help with a DVD I burned that won't play in stand alone

I'm pretty sure what you downloaded was a PAL dvd. In the U.S. we use NTSC format and most of our dvd players play only NTSC. In Europe, Australia, and some other countries they use primarily PAL format and their dvd players use PAL. On a computer this won't matter because it can read both. Also there are some dvd players that play both formats, but most in the U.S. are NTSC only. If the RHCP dvd you downloaded was the one from France I'm almost certain it is PAL. I have a a couple John Butler Trio dvds that are the same way. It sucks, but I can only watch them on my computer.

Ok now I'm curious...can some type of conversion be done for this situation? I always thought that depending on the program used you could convert it to files suitable for NTSC compliant discs.....

Yeah the one I DLEd was the one from france, so what you said makes sense. Any comment on jdanner's question? I would ove to be able to get this to play on a standalone

Hey ron...if you can describe the files to me maybe I can try to help you out...what are the file extensions and the names of the containing folders?

If the DVD is just region coded you can use a program like DVDShrink to make the disk region free so it should play.

Re: Help with a DVD I burned that won't play in stand alone

Well I tried using DVDShrink and no luck, still getting the "No NTSC" error on my standalone. I burned it with the Region Free button check and with it unchecked. Again, it is playing in the computer but not on the standalone. Is there something I am missing or should I just give up?
