Santah - White Noise Bed

I used to play with this band's drummer, and most of the guys in the band are friends of mine from my hometown. They're pretty unknown, but I think they have some potential. They specialize in rockin', earnest indie jangle pop numbers.

Check their first album here, which was recorded in Jay Bennett's studio in Rantoul, IL: http://santahmusic.com/album/white-noise-bed

Fleet Foxes - s/t
Noah and the Whale - First Days of Spring

Also, with the news of a new Radiohead album, I also found out Fleet Foxes are coming out with a new album in May. Noah and the Whale has a new album in March, Ani Difranco in April, and Death Cab sometime in May.

My dad's got a copy of this one that I listened to when I was home this past Christmas. I love how conversational it is (literally, there are conversations that occur in the middle of the songs). King's not as well known as some blues guitarists are, but he's easily SRV's biggest influence, and the obvious thrill of playing with his biggest idol comes across so strongly in how inspired his playing is on this recording.

Totally agree.

They've also started showing the video of this session on PBS lately, and it lends really reinforces what you were saying. It's so neat to watch them interact and converse, and see the looks on their faces as they watch the other. Stevie is clearly over the moon to be playing with his idol and you can see him just soaking up every second when he watches Albert solo. Albert, who was notorious for never wanting to jam with other players and not a fan of hotshot young guitarists, is clearly very impressed with Stevie and having a blast.

Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions - Through The Devil Softly

God, Hope's voice is like climbing into a warm bath for your ears. So hazy and sultry that it lulls you into into such a laid-back place in your head that you may has well have fired up a fat one in advance. Now if that 14 years overdue Mazzy Star record would ever happen...

Re: Album of the Day

listened to the new mr big (yep, those guys ) album this morning - it rocks. gilbert's guitar work is awesome, sheehan's bass/torpey's drumming are super tight, and eric martin's voice is still great - vocal harmonies are on point as well...if you like straight up rock, give this shit a spin.

I'm probably the only one here...but I was wondering how this was!

I'm going to see Paul Gilbert on 2/27 - he's part of a Beatles tribute called Yellow Matter Custard with Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater and Neal Morse from Spock's Beard.
