Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

I went to the record store yesterday because I was in the area and took my son in. I looked around for a bit and ended up picking up an album solely based on the cover art. I wasn't even sure whether the name of the band was the name of the album or vice versa, but it was $12 so I gave it a shot.

It ended up being Pianos Become the Teeth - The Lack Long After. Pressed on clear/black/grey marbled vinyl, one of only 100 pressed. They are a post-hardcore/screamo band that are actually pretty darn good. Not usually my tastes, but I actually really like them.

Here's a picture of the cover art that triggered the purchase:

Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

Looks like Mobile Fidelity is going to press Weezer's debut "Blue" album, available in September. This is a MUST OWN for me.

Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

Just pre-ordered the new Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons LPs, along with a copy of Mumford & Sons first LP, Sigh No More.

It's going to be a busy September!

I certainly do. Never saw the point in keeping them all sealed up to 'collect'.

Yessir.

I do almost all of my music buying on vinyl, and I listen to it all. I do collect, but even then I still listen to it. Welcome to the thread!

I'm still holding out hope for a Deluxe edition of Babel before pre-ordering, though I doubt it will happen.

I'm interested to hear what you think about the Sigh No More pressing. Mine is quite noisy, you can hear lots of "fuzz" or static during moments when there should be silence (not sure if that's the technical term )

I have yet to hear this album on vinyl yet, but I will let you know my thoughts as soon as I give it a couple spins. I thought the CD had moments of compression throughout. Especially when choruses started to fill out instrument wise. I hope the vinyl pressing has a more dynamic range and better instrument separation.

Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

Ok all you vinyl snobs what do you use when just listening to your vinyl? (I know I'm going to get some snarky remark but smh). The reason I ask is because I'm starting to get into listening to vinyl and the only turn tables I have is my old DJ ones (Numark TT200). Would this work? Links and pics would be appreciated.

I use an ATLP60 Audio Technica.
http://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-PL.../dp/B002GYTPAE

Great turntable, great price, very easy to use.

I have it hooked up to a standard home stereo system.

Great sound.

Here's a pic of my setup - it's pretty basic. I have another speaker on the other side of my TV.

I've got the AT-PL120. Had it since '08 and I love it, especially with a cartridge upgrade. Gonna upgrade early next year to an audiophile level table though, getting married in January and the fiance and I agreed that we'll both be allowed to buy one present for ourselves with the wedding gift money, and I think that new ProJect Debut Carbon is calling my name.

That's probably the table I'll be getting if I decide to get a brand new one. I have a JVC L-A55 with a new Audio Technica cartridge. For right now, it sounds pretty good. I hope to upgrade by the end of the year, but that's left to be determined. I'll be scouring Audiogon for some good deals on used higher end turntables.

I definitely listen to every album I buy - not one for leaving all that music trapped in a plastic wrapper. Here's a pic of my setup:

http://i47.tinypic.com/n49ht0.jpg

Mostly Vintage: I have a Technics SL-D3 table, Shure M97xE cartridge (new), Marantz 2252B receiver that I rebuilt, and Wharfedale Valdus 400 speakers.

It sounds great, even when it's cranked. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a system, wanted to focus more on building my collection - so I've kept it as basic as possible. I bought the system for $20 and the turntable for $90, so I've kept my system right around $100 bucks.

I'm sure it could sound better if I bought a better system, but this works great for me.

Thanks man! Quite a bit of time (and money) invested in getting my setup just how I wanted it. Our front living room at our house is just a music room, no TVs, etc. Just that setup along with my wife's piano and my guitar and a couch.

I have a Goldring GR-2 (made by Rega) with a Goldring 1012GX cartridge and a Parasound Zphono pre-amp.

Turntable is on the top of my rack here:

You can see the pre-amp behind the Pioneer Elite SACD/DVD-A player.

Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

Got Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More vinyl pressing in the mail the other day from Amazon. Gave it a listen tonight for the first time since getting it, and I have to tell you it sounds 10x better than the CD. A much more open and wider soundstage with great instrument detail. Doesn't sound anything like the compressed CD. During the more full parts of the album, the horns, banjo, guitars, and drums all can be heard without being muffled. The album itself is magnificent, but it's even better on vinyl. A must for any vinyl lovers and M&S fans. Can't wait to get the new album along with Avett Brothers!

I also spun New Riders of the Purple Sage - The Adventures of Panama Red, and 10,000 Maniacs - In My Tribe tonight. It was a good music night.

You can really hear it from the first track, "Sigh No More". Fuller, more defined and pronounced sound. I've heard the album on CD, Spotify, iTunes, etc. hundreds of times (literally) and last night was like listening for the first time all over again. And let me be clear, I have a modest, low-budget system. Anyone with decent gear will get even more out of this album, which would be mind boggling.

Anyone that hasn't got the 2LP 2012 all analogue pressing of Blood Sugar Sex Magik yet that likes this album, it's starting to run out of stock at several different vendors. It's approximately $29.99 on Amazon.com using ASIN B005VPLZ76 and I'd highly recommend snagging a copy while it's still available before it hits $100.

Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

Does anyone in here have any idea of Animals by Pink Floyd will ever get released? I was always surprised that wasn't part of their big repacking effort a few years ago. Not to ask too many questions, but I haven't heard much on a reissuing of The Beatles catalogue lately. Has that effort completely died?
