Re: Carter Beauford

Just got in from Dallas. Changes:

Def a new snare. Wooden w/ tube lugs as stated above.
13" tom to left of hi hat. This tom is a black Recording Custom. Weird unless it was a last minute change and couldn't get a PHX tom. He used this tom and the timbale tonight.
Timbale under back crash. Bach crash has 10" Trashformer stacked upside down on top
21" Ultra hammered China looks to be a 20" oriental china trash
Back to a 17 or 18" 2nd main crash. That's the only changes I saw.

Re: Carter Beauford

Had an amazing weekend doing the Texas run, highlighted by getting to meet the man himself! Being nervous as hell I didn't get off too many equipment or technique questions, moreso just gushing to Carter about how he's my idol and thanking him for being an such inspritational gangster. He signed this picture for me, with an inspring note, and hooked up a soundcheck-used stick, which he inscribed and signed as well. Link to pics

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ervncarter.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...K/e3000a65.jpg

As you can see, he is rocking some dope custom gloves made by Zildjian. His signature was along the index finger in gold, in a raised rubber. He said he may only play a few songs with them - not sure if he did or didn't- because they first tried to embroider the signature on but it hurt his finger and he wasn't sure how the new rubber would fare. He told us sweet stories about LeRoi growing up, and how Boyd played his fiddle on his porch alone because he thought nobody would take him seriously.

Also got to speak with Henry. He said the signature Yamaha snare was used on the road for 3 years, but Yamaha couldn't replicate the prototype and thus it was never made. The new snare is an Alex Van Halen Limited Edition Ludwig, only 100 made. Carter has #21

Also, Carter being a badass, promised us sticks and delivered, handing em to us directly from the stage. He shook my hand from stage too. Best DMB day ever

Re: Carter Beauford

Awesome story!

My question is why is he using a Recording Custom floor tom? I guess the PHX may be on back order, or else it's just a random addition. He used it at Dallas actually. Still think the back crash is never hit nowadays.

According to Ronn Dunnett, Carter was using Ludwig's Alex Vanhalen Custom snare in the studio as well.

Cool story! I'm jealous.

I wonder what he's listening to with those headphones? I would love to go through Carter's iPod.

Re: Carter Beauford

Thanks ya'll. It's been three days and I'm still on cloud 9. Taking it all to the framer tomorrow, will post complete pics. In drum news, I bought an Evans EMAD Onyx batter for my bass drum today and I really like it. Packs alot of punch, which i've been looking for. It's a 22" so it's too echoey - not anymore!

The ride looks like an A Custom Projection Ride judging from the shape of the bell and the time period that this video was recorded(he used the Projection primarily for a long time until 2/3 years ago?). I'm not sure about the hats. They could be 14" Mastersound or the 14" Z custom/K custom combination that he used to use. I'm not positive, though. Some of the other guys on here might be able to confirm for me.

Looks and sounds like an A Custom Projection Ride that's been cleaning and his K/Z hi-hats with the Z on top. Not sure if he's using the K or K Custom for the bottom though.

I've always wondering what other cymbals he used for these sessions. Like the 2 crashes and china?

I think they're all K's, but I can't really tell what kind. His main crash looks like it might be a K/Dark Medium-Thin Brilliant finish. They only make them in the traditional finish now. I'm at work and I can't watch the video. So, I'm going on memory here. I apologize if I'm incorrect.

Re: Carter Beauford

Hats are definitely the K/Z combo with the Z on top. I own that set and can say its def it. Also, they are 13", not 14".

I would agree with Nick3641 above on the main crash. Its most likely an 18" and the secondary crash is the 17" K medium-thin. Main splash is 10" A Custom. China is hard to tell, but it looks like an A series in traditional finish.

Interesting that Carter is using the RC toms again with the Phoenix bass.

I noticed that when I watched it last night, too. But, I wasn't sure if I was seeing things. I saw the lugs on the toms and immediately thought of the RC's. I also thought it was weird that he had a crash above his rides instead of a china.

You can't keep up with this guy.

Even more interesting.....I just noticed that he is now using the RC toms on tour. I don't know when this started. I noticed it in the end of this video. Great song btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcuNE...eature=related

Re: Carter Beauford

04 looked like the Dunnett Titanium 6.5x14, or the purple Dunnett that was made for him. I believe it was a titanium 5.5x14.

He's lowered the flat ride significantly now, has what looks to be a 14" china above the timbale, 14" floor tom on his left side, and back to RC toms/PHX bass drum. Everything else looks to be the same.

I did notice as said above, he had a crash above his rides in the studio instead of a china.

Re: Carter Beauford

China is still there during shows though. I think it was just for the studio maybe, but you can clearly hear 2 different chinas in the studio version of Gaucho.

lol trust me, i know its there in the shows. i still wish he'd lay off of them until the end of the jam/song like the old days. his selectiveness drove the most emotional parts of the song to their peak
