Costas Interview

Did anyone else watch Farm Aid via DirecTV? The Bob Costas interview right after Mellancamp's performance was excellent. He asked Dave all the normal Farm Aid questions then he asked Dave a question that made my heart sink and i'm sure his the same.

He said how do you replace a guy like LeRoi Moore? Dave mumbled around nervous like he always does but he went on to say about how Roi was part of the band for over 18 years and a dear friend for even longer. A then he said that he would never be replaced - per say - he said that no matter what he will always be on stage with us and then he said whether there is another sax or a kazoo? up on stage they will continue to play the music that he inspired and that something along the lines that he knows Roi will be watching over them and probably sometimes laughing at them for what they do.

That was all paraphrase and if anyone else saw it please help me piece it together.

He asked a couple of other questions one was about the fans and Dave even mentioned that we are sometimes insane!

The last was if his kids would attend UVA.

Overall a great interview...

What did you guys think? Those that saw it that is...

Huh? Why not?

That question is always asked. Not sure why you "don't ask it" or it's surprising that he did.

"So, how are you going to replace your good friend Roi, you know the one that just died? How ya gonna do that?"

Yeah, that's a great question to ask.

Re: Costas Interview

It's called journalism. Good job by Costa and based on what I've heard from a few people excellent answer by Dave. And I don't mean that in terms of the band continuing but I mean in the stuff he said about LeRoi and the part about him being happy with what the band does and sometimes laughing at what the band does.

Are you new to the world of interviews?

Costas is a professional and one of the best at what he does. He knows how to approach sensitive questions and obviously did it in the correct way. What's wrong with asking Dave how they replace someone like Roi? That's not rude and that's not being a dick. It's journalism and a perfectly acceptable question if it's asked correctly.

I agree Jimmy I thought it was an excellent answer by Dave. No better way he could have put it as far as I am concerned.

Re: Costas Interview

"So who is your best friend now?" would be an example of an inappropriate question.

Re: Costas Interview

if you know Costas style then that question should have been expected...he's that type of reporter that will ask the bold questions whether they are inappropriate, embarressing or on point, that guy has no shame, and for the most part it is good journalism but i will say IMO he has asked some questions that were out of place and out of line.

personally, im not sure how i felt about him asking dave this, but any of us who say we weren't wondering his real answer to that same exact this is Bullshiz and if there was anyone i would want to have asked him that, strangely, its Costas, and not some schmuck reporter from Rolling Stone or a random music channel

Apparently you are new to "interviews" because Costas sucks major balls.

Yeah, that's a great question to ask.
That is a perfectly fine and normal question for Bob to ask. His JOB is to give the public the information they want to know. So even if it was rude, it's his job to a point. And Dave can always avoid it if he is uncomfortable. World of Journalism 101. They probably went over what was "PC" to talk about before the show.

Re: Costas Interview

Charlie Rose even asked about Anne Matthews death. That is just as personal, if not more. It wasn't out of line and it became a very passionate interview.
