Funny The Way It Is Discussion

It's definitely more musically developed than anything off of Stand Up and is a new direction for the band, I'm not sure what to think about the chorus, it just doesn't seem like it fits and it kind of reminds me of Mother Father, the standing on the bridge part doesn't seem to fit either.

AWESOME! Just so much fuller than anything on stand up, plus Carter is BACK!

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

It does have a full sound to it. It is a very well developed song, that sounds like they've been playing it live for months. I agree that it has parts that seem like they don't fit, but I dig it. Boyd is playing harder than he has in the past, Carter is on top of his game, & Timmy sounds fantastic

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

I like the song. Way better than Stand Up!!!

One thing... Don't you guys hear "Trouble With You," the way Dave sings in certain parts?

EDIT: Sorry... Not trouble with you.....

LOVE OF MY LIFE with Santana!!!! That's what I'm hearing! No?

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

My thougths:

1. Horrible guitar solo
2. The sound is reminiscent of Before these crowded streets - Good!
3. Carter is there
4. No horns -> I was expecting some...

Not a bad song, but not one of a kind. Better than anything on Stand Up (except maybe American Baby and intro.)

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

yeah some parts dont fit and tim overpowers this song. I like his little solo but other than that i think he really kills it which is sad because this could have been a classic great dmb song.

im hoping it grows on me, i love the beginning and parts of it

No horns. My only complaint about the track. Otherwise, it gets better with each listen. Some of the best lyrics in a couple records!

I can see this being EPIC live with Timmy shredding the crap out of this and Carter/Dave killing the vocals on the chorus.

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

lets keep it real. that song was terrible.

lyrics=cheese(stop preaching dave, i prefer gibberish) music=better but nothing new, forced violin solo.

i hope this is the worst song on the album.

I love it. You can really feel the power that the band has. Its good to hear a stronger Boyd than in the recent past, a powerful Carter, Fonz is grooving (I can only imagine how he will groove on stage!), Dave really is hitting it strong too...this is gonna be great...cant wait for the full album

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

i'm not going to lie, this song brought a tear to my eye. these four guys lost one of their greatest friends, and this is what they do with the pain. what could have destroyed them brought them new life. and the first thing they release is a song about the irony of sadness and happiness living side by side. both the arrangement and the lyrics are strong and well thought out. they're playing their hearts out. whoever's going to madison square garden tonight is in for a real treat. i'm so glad we didn't lose them.

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

Boyd's solo is legit and is a nice touch to the song, I'm glad they focused on the music. I've listened to it a few times in a row now and really the only part that doesn't seem to fit is Tim's solo and the standing on the bridge bit, the chorus is growing on me and is pretty catchy. I'm pleased

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

I agree with everyone that it's much better than anything on stand up. It does grow more and more with each listen. As for the 'standing on a bridge' part, it doesn't necessarily fit, however it fits with the overall theme of the song, listen closely. And I too wish there were more horns, but there are plenty more BWATGGK songs to come, and by the sounds of LeRoi's solo to start off the album, they probably wont dissapoint.

Also, can't you see them playing this song live over and over, and can't you see them having a great time playing it like every other song. And can't you see yourself loving it just the same as everything else?

Agree there is a lot of guitar, which I think was to be expected, but it sounds to me like there is some sax mixed low with the violin part. Nothing significant, but it is there.

I agree 100% with this...kind of shocked me.

Definitely better than Stand Up material...I like the fuller sound

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

I truely think this song is Bad Ass....could it be better...maybe, but it is perfect the way it is. Lots of different sections, a violin solo, a guitar solo. Yes its not as acoustic driven and doesn't have much Leroi, but not every song on the record will have tons of leroi!

Like it a lot. Much more than I thought I would. VERY optimistic for the rest. Interesting sound w/o the horns...

C'mon guys... Dave definitely borrowed from LOVE OF MY LIFE w/Santana on this one. No one else hear it in the way he sings the verse.

I am really diggin this tune. Again, more horns would have been nice, but it is a strong statement. Some of the better lyrics since Some Devil, strongly written. I think also that the problem with parts not fitting together, is simply because there are 3 of the strongest melodies that DMB songs have had in a number of years, and they are all in one song. Great overall sound. It'll be fun to see live.

Re: Funny The Way It Is Discussion

I like it. I agree with alot of the thoughts above that it does remind me of Love of my life at one point, the song Ironic comes into my mind, and there are no horns but its a good song. The band is going to kick this songs ass come summer tour. Boyd and Tim are going to really open this up.

Anyone else notice how it's not listed as FTWII on the tracklisting in iTunes or WMP?

I like it, maybe tim and the guitar is what they mean by a heavier sound. Very catchy and deep song.

I really like this song. As has been said better than anything off of Stand Up for sure. And yeah I wish there was more horns but...like the song a lot. Definately a radio song. It's very catchy.

I am really digging the lyrics, they are catchy, yet more classic DMB radio songs style (with some substance)!!!
