I don't know where I heard it sung as "Free Balling*" not Free Falling but it happened many years a go...and now when I hear it in my head I can't but help think of it that way.

Surprised at the negativity thus far.. I love this song and Tom Petty very much. I also enjoy Mayer's cover of it on his new live album every now and then too.

I'll be willing to bet if you had said, "Man, I'm digging Tom Petty right now, particularly Free fallin, what a solid song" most people would agree.

But when something is labeled "greatest" or "one of the greatest" people get all weirded out.

I understand why some people dont really care for Tom petty, I'm not a huge fan but I can't deny how many great pop songs he wrote. Sure they are simple and his voice is weird but sometimes I get a fever and the only prescription is some Tom petty

It's up there. It's just fallen into the realm of a ton of other potential best songs ever written that you hear alllllll the time so you just get a bit sick of it. But really, it's one of the best pop/rock songs ever written.
