Re: My Stats... DMB v Phish.

DMB should not be compared to Phish.. ever. The only thing they both have in common is they are both touring rock bands. Thats it. DMB has never been, and never will be a jam band.

I wasn't complaining... just though it was an interesting bunch of facts. I DO NOT CARE WHAT DMB PLAYS. i love ALL OF IT.
the onl way i'd feel disappointed is if i went to a DMB show and the played Stolen Away 18 times. then i'd be sad. but add even a cornbread in there and i'd love it.

ALSO, i saw hampton n3 and c-ville for whoever asked.
i was the one that asked. i just looked it up and they played 30 songs on N3 of hampton. that isn't normal. if you went to 2 shows from the regular summer or fall tour it would be about the same amount of songs at 2 dmb shows. i'm only bringing it up cause its not an accurate amount of songs. now if your talking repeats...

I know, what the fuck. And they don't even have ultra-cool lights like Phish does, either.

Re: My Stats... DMB v Phish.

So I went to a Punk-Music Festival once. There were 12 Bands and each got a half hour set. In 30 minutes they each played 62 songs. So in 6 hours I saw 372 songs. 0 Phisn, 0 DMB and one Prince cover.

Pig and elephant DNA just dont splice

If you actually feel that way, you don't deserve to get to go to NYE.

Phish 3.0 does nothing of the sort. Most songs stay in the 8-10 minute range. Get a clue.

Any band can be compared to any other, especially when it just comes to the logistics of live shows. DMB and Phish have little in common musically, but they have lots in common otherwise (live improvisation, dedicated touring fanbase, allowing taping, changes setlists nightly, etc). Outside of the music, you can compare DMB's approach and setup to its live show with any other band that plays live.

You're lucky to have seen that kind of diversity in DMB, but give it another few shows and you'll have probably barely cracked 70.

I didn't know there was a deserving test to go to a phish show. How about if I promise to say 20 Hail Trey's and 30 our fishmans everyday till the show? Would I then be worthy of hearing the deep philosophical words to Bouncing around the room?

And when did anyone from the loser city of Philly get to decide who's worthy? I think that was revoked when you booed Santa Claus.

i feel like your probably just going to NYE just cause you think its the "cool thing" to do... i mean, if u don't like the music, there are plenty of folks in this world that LOVE Phish and their music (lyrics included)that would probably appreciate being there more than you.

seems like u'll ruin the scene in Miami... i can smell the frat coming off of you.

This is exactly the kind of response I expected out of you. The lyrics are a huge part of Phish's music, and just because they're not deep and philosophical enough for you doesn't mean they don't add to the experience. The fact that many of their songs are about silly characters and goofy situations doesn't mean they're not worthwhile. Last time I checked, Dave hasn't exactly been a lyrical viking over the past several years either.

As to the comment about Philly, grow up. Anyone who still brings up booing Santa just shows his immaturity and lack of knowledge over the original event (which, mind you, took place roughly 40 years ago).

Wow, really mature response.

EDIT: You sound like you don't even like Phish. Do you have good seats? I'd love to upgrade if you don't really want to go.

Re: My Stats... DMB v Phish.

DMB - 10 shows, 80 unique songs played, 28 (35%) played only once, no song played more than 8 times (80% of shows)
Phish - 6 shows, 83 unique songs played, 53 (64%) played only once, no song played more than 3 times (50% of shows)

Of the two night stands I've attended:
DMB - 8.7.07/8.8.07: 33 unique songs played, 3 repeats
DMB - 6.3.08/6.4.08: 31 unique songs played, 3 repeats
DMB - 4.14.09/4.15.09: 28 unique songs played, 8 repeats
Phish - 11.24.09/11.25.09: 38 unique songs played, 0 repeats

Well it seemed very much like you were trying to make the point that Mike just tried to make: that Phish plays more diverse setlists than DMB, and thereby imply that Phish was better. And there has been an endless stream of threads recently trying to compare one band's performances to another, which is pointless to me, because it's all subjective, regardless of objective numbers people throw out in support of their arguments.
