Potential 2010 Radiohead Tour Dates

Anyone know of any? Or if there is even a 2010 tour planned at all? I want to catch these guys on tour as soon as possible...maybe someone can fill me in.

In all seriousness, I don't think there have been any announcements made of a 2010 tour. The last info I heard is that they are recording an album this winter (I guess right now) but who knows if that will be a continous recording and they will have an album out later in the year or if it will be another In Rainbows deal where they record some stuff, go on tour, then go back and work on the songs and then release an album like 2 years after the initial touring with those songs (I know Nude and Reckoner have been around longer).

I hope they do tour in 2010. I've seen them twice but I most certainly wouldn't mind seeing them again!

They are recording their new album in January. I think whether they tour or not will depend how tortuous those sessions end up being. If they're relatively smooth, maybe 2010 will see a new Radiohead album + tour. If it's as long as painful as the Kid A or In Rainbows sessions, I don't think we'll be hearing much from them for quite a while.

Luckily, signs seem to point to a relatively quick (by their standards) recording session, so anything is possible.

Do you feel more or less empowered than you did in 2000 — as a musical concern, as a band trying to make art in a strange world?
On a more personal level, if you went back nine, 10 years, you'd find that external events exerted way more influence. Imminent war — things like that affected us much more. Now, I feel more empowered, that these things cannot create heaven or hell within me.

In terms of the band, we feel way more empowered in terms of our art and what we're doing. We have been rehearsing for the last four weeks, for this new record. And we are in a very different place, a very new place. I don't know if this is relevant, but I was talking with Philip [Selway, drummer] three days ago about this. We were saying, "What's different?" And one of the things is we do things without fear. A lot of where we come from — our education, our upbringing — manifests itself in the shadow of fear. I love that Talking Heads album title, Fear of Music. There has been a lot of that. And in a sense, I don't think it served us too badly. It kept us on our toes. It kept us trying to seek new areas artistically.

The trouble is, as you get older, fear is not a great motivator. If you have fear, you can't relax. [The 2007 album] In Rainbows definitely hints at that. The way that album sounded actually goes against the grain of those two years, the gestation period. That was fear-based time. But the album didn't turn out that way. And certainly the gigs after it hinted at a different way of being. What we're trying to do now is make art without fear. You're relaxing. There is more joy in what you do.

How much has [singer-songwriter] Thom Yorke changed in the past decade? Many of the changes you went through as a band were instigated by his impatience and distaste for conventional rock stardom.
I think he feels incredibly empowered now. He's not an artist with his head in the clouds. He knows there is a very pragmatic side to being an artist. If anything, what's happened in the last ten years is that he's gotten less angry. The lyrics come more from his soul. He works hard at lyrics. But he is more concerned with evoking an emotion. He's good at that. The thing that is different about In Rainbows is that it was an album from the heart. It was a lot warmer. And from what I'm making out in the rehearsal room now, there are still elements of that. He's finding his way lyrically at the moment. It's early days.

But what's great about Thom is he's got a very acute bullshit sniffer. He can sense the bullshit in others — and the bullshit in himself. He's probably harder on himself than on others. He understands that if this thing that is coming out of him doesn't feel right, well, that needs to change. And that means hard work — like the shift from what we were doing on [1997's] OK Computer to [2000's Kid A]. He definitely led us in that period: "I'm not quite sure where this is leading, but this is what I'm listening to, and this is where I think we should be going." He doesn't seem to worry about, "What if this thing dries up?" He understands that there are periods when lyrics don't come. But as long as you keep being honest to yourself, to the people around you, to your audience, if you do all of that stuff, it might take a bit more time. But it keeps coming out.

The new track you released for free online, "These Are My Twisted Words," sounds like you are up to some good mischief.
I'm an eternal optimist, but I truly believe we can shift massively on this [next] record. That's the thing we all know, that we feel in our bellies as we're rehearsing — we're on a big move here. We're definitely on a journey. And it's exciting.

I'd be shocked if we don't have the album digitally by June. Not sure enough to put cash down, but still. Doubting an album in 2010 seems funny to me, especially if someone claims to know how the band works.

If there's no album by June 2010, there'll be a tour to promote some new songs and a new album in 2011. 2005 was a break year for them coming off touring HTTT. Then 2006 where they toured songs which mostly became In Rainbows. Most of 2007 was spent finishing up IR before releasing it in October.

Since they toured IR for most of 2008 and some of 2009 and are just now starting work on the follow-up, I think they'll break for some touring and finish everything up for mid-2011. Even if they use some of those new songs Thom debuted with his side-band, we won't see a new Radiohead album for at least a year and a half.

RH is notorious for grueling studio sessions, except it turns out magnificent.

That being said, I hope and pray for an album and tour. Given that interview, it looks good? Who knows though. I have yet to see them, and need to fix that now.

^Yes, you do. I saw them in August 2008 and it was the best show I've ever been to. Very In Rainbows-heavy, which was fine by me, but still a solid variety of stuff.

Saw them in 2006 at Bonnaroo which was amazing. Saw them again in 2008 which had a more amazing light show (also I was front row) but I've gotta say the 2006 show was one of the best live concerts I've ever been to.

Yeah that Bonnaroo show is amazing.

Haha, yeah man front row! I lucked out! I stayed up all night (literally) for the pre-sale to start on their website. I even joined their fan website (www.greenplastic.com a pretty cool website) and talked to others who were staying up. Then, as soon as they went on sale (like 8 in the morning or somethin) I got tickets. Just paid a flat price (I think around $60 or $70) and waited for my seats. Everyone else was getting confirmations but I had yet to hear anything. So, I emailed them asking if there was some sort of delay with my tickets. Then, a few days later I got an email telling me my seats were in the pit!! I was freaking ecstatic! Amazing show. But, honestly, while it was cool to be so close, I would rather be a bit further back because their lights are so amazing I'd want to be able to take that all in.

Damn, well that effort paid off well. I'd have to agree with the lights thing, seeing Phish for the first time this year, I was a bit back, which made it all the better.

Honestly, seeing Radiohead live doesn't seem like it would be that fun of a time. I'm sure they are fantastic live, but their music is so depressing
