It was cool the first couple years but it's played out now. Save it for Jimi (because you just have to assume it's gonna be played). Otherwise, leave the Thank You past in the past.

Deer Creek N2. the encore was supposed to be Minarets > Halloween > Billies. Obviously i can't say the thank you chants were for sure what caused Minarets to be cut, but IMO the chants are to blame. When the crowed started the chants Dave talked to the band, and then they went into that extended outro. In my head he is saying thank you or minarets, they chose thank you.

Forgot I even started this thread. My whole take on it is I will sing it if the crowd starts it up, but I won't be the one to start it. Whatever happens happens. It was cool in the past, but like ppl said, maybe its better off staying there.

I was there in 2008 and 2009. I loved it both times. I was in the front row during 2009, and was singing along with the crowd right before the encore. I actually was hoping DMB was going to play it again. I love Sly and the Family Stone.

I just don't get the hatred for this song. It's fun, it gets the crowd going, Carter is awesome on it, Dave dances like a madman. What's not to love?

If I was going to Alpine this year, I'd be happy to hear it again. It would be awesome if the encore was:

I'm not a big fan of it but unfortunately I think it is Alpine's thing now. I don't mind hearing it as long as it doesnt take the place of something epic that was on the setlist and then cut. Halloween>Billies>Thank You would be just fine

That's the problem that most who are for it don't seem to realize. Last time DDTW and Billies/Watchtower got cut for it.

I bet if it happened again, the same thing will happen. So for those who are for it - do you want the probable Halloween>Billies to get cut in favor of hearing Thank You again? Seriously?

The only reason it was part of Jimi in 2010 was because Rashawn played the riff mid-solo. The singing didn't start until RR played it. I'm convinced he did it to get it out of everybody's system so they wouldn't have to play the whole song in the encore or deal with the chanting.

You forget, DDTW with either Tripping Billies or Watchtower was replaced with Thank You and a fucking intense version of Halloween .

I think that was an improvement.

I enjoy it! The Band finally sold me on it at Lakeside Caravan last year, they just went crazy (especially Dave) and made the song really fun. Would love to see it at Alpine again this year. The crowd at Riverside started singing it during Jimi Thing Sunday night but Dave shut the song down with Sexy Motherfucker instead.

I like the interpolation in Jimi. I also liked it when the crowd sang after at Alpine 2008. I don't want or need to hear the entire song though.

I don't think Thank You at DC caused Minarets to get cut. That's the band's choice. They could have shortened any other song after Jimi Thing, especially Two Step to accommodate Minarets later in the Encore. Somehow or some way, Thank You will come out on some level at Alpine. Maybe pre-show, maybe during Jimi Thing or maybe once again after the show.

I don't want to hear the song, plus DMB has truly done very few covers all tour (isn't it two to date?).

In the end, the crowd will decide how/when/if this comes in to play at Alpine 2012.

I'd rather hear other stuff, but if they were to cut something shitty in favor it, I would have no problems.

Don't really have a preference towards the song being played but it can be brutal if/when a chant for it causes a potential better song to be dropped and it is played.

They should interpolate into a different song this year . . . SDL maybe. One of the best performances i've seen by the band was that song at blossom '10.
