Official Superman: Man of Steel (2012) Thread

I hope I don't jinx this and the movie gets cancelled but I figured it was time to start this thread.

I am really looking forward to seeing what Nolan does with the Superman franchise. Rumors have been circulating that John Hamm is being considered for this role, but they are just rumors at this point. I can see him in this role though.

Either way I am excited that my favorite superhero is getting his respecting and I am getting tired of all this Batman love, especially since he isn't even a superhero just some crazed lunatic with expensive toys running around in a halloween costume.

I was watching Kill Bill Vol. 2 this weekend and I forgot about that last discussion that involved Superman, I love it.

Bill: As you know, l'm quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology... The mythology is not only great, it's unique.
The Bride: [who still has a needle in her leg] How long does this shit take to go into effect?
Bill: About two minutes, just long enough for me to finish my point. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He's weak... he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race. Sorta like Beatrix Kiddo and Mrs. Tommy Plimpton.
The Bride: Aso. The point emerges.
Bill: You would've worn the costume of Arlene Plimpton. But you were born Beatrix Kiddo. And every morning when you woke up, you'd still be Beatrix Kiddo. Oh, you can take the needle out.
The Bride: [does so] Are you calling me a superhero?
Bill: I'm calling you a killer. A natural born killer. You always have been, and you always will be. Moving to El Paso, working in a used record store, goin' to the movies with Tommy, clipping coupons. That's you, trying to disguise yourself as a worker bee That's you tryin' to blend in with the hive. But you're not a worker bee. You're a renegade killer bee. And no matter how much beer you drank or barbecue you ate or how fat your ass got, nothing in the world would ever change that.

Re: Official Superman: Man of Steel (2012) Thread

Tony Scott directing this movie kind of intrigues me. I am a little bummed that Nolan wont be the director, but I am sure he will have a big part in the script and the direction of the movie. I can't wait for this to come out, until then I will have to get my Superman fix on Smallville.

Tony Scott would be an awful choice. Of the list, Jones and Snyder have to be the favorites.

I don't know I think it could go either way, but I agree with the other two you have listed. I am just glad to hear that they are starting to make some moves for this movie.

All it needs is the John Williams opening march score and I'll enjoy it.

One of the best scores Williams has done. I have been going to see him out at the Hollywood bowl every summer a while now, he always plays the Superman March.

Kevin Spacey?

I'm kind of tired of the Superhero angle already. And we haven't even had The Avengers yet.

Haven't been a big fan of Superman since I was a kid. He was always a bit too douchey, compared to say Batman.

But it will be interesting to see what happens with this remake.

Re: Official Superman: Man of Steel (2012) Thread

Some of this info needs to be in this thread also;

http://batman-news.com/2010/09/23/no...tman-3-script/

It isn't greenlit because Nolan and Co. don't need "document" with information on them for news people and other fools to see. They have the script done, have built sets and have people casted. We just don't know the exact info of those three things. Nolan will have everything up to par to start filming, Batman 3 will probably be greenlit "title/villian/etc. announced to the public" the day before or the day of the first second of film is filmed...

The Batman 3 title/villian/etc. is put on the backburner for announcemnt for not only the reasons I stated above but also because the WB wants to release that info along with title and who's directing the new Superman film. It will be a one-two punch and because Nolan is associated with both.

Nolan has a list of 5 directors he wants for Superman and they are currently working on that...

Yup, sucks that Nolan wont be directing, but I trust his judgement. I can't wait to see what they do with this, I am really hoping that Brainiac is in this one.

Not sure how many of you guys Twitter but this guy is pretty funny. His name is JerkSuperman.

http://twitter.com/JerkSuperman

Some highlights:

About once a week I fly to Gotham City & bend the Bat symbol on the Bat Signal into the shape of a penis.

Yeah okay, you know what Bruce? We all KNOW you saw your parents die but my WHOLE PLANET got blown up & you don't hear me crying about it.

At this weeks JLA meeting. Keep offering @God_Damn_Batman throat lozenges but he won't take the hint. NO ONE UNDERSTANDS YOU, BRUCE.

I am bigger than Jesus. Literally. Went back in time and met the guy once, explained the benefits of using protein to bulk up.

It's called "the Fortress of Solitude" Lois, not "the Fortress of I'll Call You Every Hour to Check In".

See it would be cool if Superman had some personality like that.

Instead, he's all, "I am Superman! *sticks chin out* I fight in the name of righteousness and vanquish those that would harm mankind! A-ha!" Ok, he's not that over the top, but you get what I'm saying.

The God Damn Batman one is actually funnier:

I know not that this makes it actually official or anything, but in the new EW issue I think it was, Hamm has already publicly said that he wouldn't make a good Superman, among the reasons that he's too old, so he doesn't seem particularly interested.

And I can't help but laugh a little bit at all the people who are immediately on board with Duncan Jones. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of "Moon", but it was exactly one film. He doesn't exactly have instant street cred for me to hand over the reinvention of the Superman franchise to him.

Tony Scott is honestly not a name I would've right away considered, but he is MORE than capable for the job. He's a very good action director, I don't think I'd have any problem with watching a Superman flick from him.

I am intrigued by Tony Scott, I like his films and I think it would work depending on the angle they wanted to take with this Superman movie.

While Nolan already had three movies under his belt before taking the Batman reigns, no one besides film buffs knew who the hell he was - and well...Moon was fantastic. So I'm perfectly fine with Jones taking it on.

Though I've never been into Superman. For the reasons the OP isn't crazy about Batman is exactly the reason I love him. So whatever.

Not to go way nerd but Cypher's ability also inclued Binary so he can "talk" to comuters so hes not completely useless. I'd rather be able to talk to computers than fish.

I can't argue with that, but it would be cool to know what is on a fishs mind.

HELL YES!!!
I cant wait for this superman is badass. I just hope they pit him up against another super powered villain, bring on darkseid, metallo, or braniac. I just want to see i air fights between superman and another, I also want to see them smashing each other into buildings, and sonic boom punches. with the potential you have with superman you can make it one hell of a epic movie, just do it right.
