The tenor Sax Solo should be louder.

Re: AMP: Grey Street

have you guys been sending all files as mp3s? Seems counterproductive to me since I don't know any programs that open tracks to mix in mp3 format. I'll have to convert to WAV to use anyway. It'll work though so I'll have this done tomorrow

Audacity will import and open MP3 tracks. What recording software do you use? WAV is obviously better.

we've been using mp3 as our backing track file because its easier to work with. that file isn't the final mix. we have every instrument track saved as wav and will mix those for the final mix. the mp3 is just so whoever still has to lay down their instrument has an easy file to play with. why waste the time downloading what could be a 100mb file just to listen to it when playing your part. the mp3 does the same job and downloads in 5 minutes.

Cool. So the form is the normal old school 3rd verse... Not like the lillywhite session with the double chorus? Also, the soprano line over the second chorus isn't quite right and the tenor line is missing in the 3rd verse. There's also random sax octave doubling between the tenor and soprano. Were we going for a 3 horn section sound?

The soprano line works this way I think. Leroi also just improvised over it. Maybe you think about the beginning of the chorus part. I think it's okay.

Are yure the tenor line is missing? I have to check it out. I just add the Soprano to the alto part in the beginning and in the end. We can use it or take it away, if you want to...

i honestly don't know what "normal" is for this song. what i DO know is that our version is based off LT16. that has a double chorus at the end before the sax solo, but we cut the 2nd chorus out.

as for the horn lines, u and blusi need to figure out what happens where and when. i have no idea about playing instruments

That soprano line hasn't been improvised since before the lillywhite sessions were leaked. It's a set 8 bar phrase that Roi used to take some liberties with but was always the same. After they cut the 3rd verse Roi would improvise over the last half of the double chorus after the horn line but in the 3 verse version the double chorus (last one before the jam) happens after he picks the tenor back up. He used to solo over the last half of THAT double chorus on tenor.
And yes, there is no sax line during the 3rd verse on this recording... It should be the normal G#-E-F#-G# line over the last half before the final double chorus.

Ah you're right...the tenor part is missing. We should be able to copy it from another part of the song. If that doesn't work, I'll record it later.

Your version follows the standard way they performed it in 2002. You do the double chorus, but you cut the final EXTRA chorus that is found on the lillywhite recording. Check out this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o1pptRjSiY
That's the form you've recorded.

Re: AMP: Grey Street

Just realized... It's the same form as the Busted Stuff recording.
And the soprano line should be the same as it's heard on the Busted Stuff recording (atnthe 2:01 mark) which is the same as the lillywhite recording(at the 1:56 mark)

Right. But is it a big thing to change it a bit? I didn't record the "side man" chorus part on the tenor, because I need the lyrics to play around them to get inspired.

It's just "a little bit" different. I like it this way.

Happy that no one said yet a bad thing about the bass stuff.

Wouldn't be a huge thing if you were playing alone, but I planned on recording trumpet harmonies which includes that line which is why they started playing it the same way every performance... A least the first 4 bars of it.

obviously the horn stuff is the first stuff I hear just cause i've studied it for so long. What I heard of the bass sounds fine. A lot gets lost in the mp3 mix I think

Allright, I see...maybe you played it just like me? Same notes, but a bit diff. rhythm. Trumpet harmonies would be sweet.

Re: AMP: Grey Street

Spoot.... I assume you just want a raw wav recording with no effects or anything. I have some preset effects i usually throw on my horns to wet them down... Mostly some EQ and reverb. Should I leave that off or include that on the wav?
