No mention of taking control of all of your files and doing everything the way they want it to be done?

Re: Apple's WWDC 2011 starts Monday! (new OSX, iCloud, iOS5, iPhone?)

Couple questions I'm interested in...

1. What's ahead for current MobileMe users? It's been great for syncing all my work documents back and forth, and it's over 5GB, so will there be tiered pricing for more storage?
2. Someone want to tell me why I'd pay $25 to have all my music up in the cloud. As a backup? To be able to sync wirelessly? Just trying to understand, I'm very interested, just a little confused.
3. Hope they release some type of good news for iPhone customers, even if it's a hint that it'll definitely be at the September event. It just seems a long way away from now.

I dont think non-itunes bought music can be put in the cloud without it. Even with this 25 dollar service, they are not your files - they are 'matched' itunes bullshit ACC(?) files...

Apple knows what an mp3 is right?

Im not a fan of the iCloud already. But will I be able to hook my iPhone up to my computer and put my music on there the way I do it now?

And when is iOS 5 available. It looks awesome.

Why don't you like it already, you haven't even seen it in action.

And iOS 5 is coming in the 'Fall.' I'd assume at Apple's September iPod event, where hopefully they give us the new iPhone.

You only get 5gb of non-apple content. So any non-itunes music it seems that meeting the 5gb will not no problem. I would use it for documents and for pictures, but hope I can use my music the way it is now. I'm assuming that this will eat a ton of data, so those that don't have an unlimited plan might be screwed.

2. IF all your music was easily available in iTunes AND you had a lot of it... then this matching service for $25 isn't really that bad a deal as far as time goes imo. I just don't know many people who would be able to say that about their music library.
3. Look for stuff in Fall man. I know it's not what anyone wants but it's been talked about for months from very reliable folks in the biz.

I thought that iCloud was supposedly going to be available today. That's what he said. Was I mistaken?

1. Thanks for the link, I didn't even know they had addressed that already.

2. Yeah my music is pretty straight up and organized, so this might not be that bad for me. I don't think it's going to replicate/replace my versions on my MacBook, I just see it as replicating it with the matched versions in the cloud. Think that's right?

3. I know I know, I'll give it a rest. Just ready for an upgrade. My 3GS is looking older and older by the day.

That's how I am reading it yeah. I can see it uploading your unsync'able tunes at some point though (since I'm sure that will become a huge dividing line between Google and Apple). I think Apple has enough muscle with the labels to pull that off at some point. Again, thanks Google.

I feel for you guys on the 3Gs but I am glad they are changing the hardware cycle. It didn't make a lot of sense where it was on the calendar as far as the rest of the mobile industry was concerned. I would assume that iOS5 won't come out till the new hardware for just this reason. I can't see the 3Gs running it all that well. Not intending a slight against the hardware either, just getting a bit long in the tooth for this particular type of device.

Yeah I've got the 3Gs. I've still got until January on my AT&T contract though and then I'm switching to Verizon so I'm trying to time it right so I can switch at the right time and hopefully get the newest Iphone. Unfortunately that means I'll be running iOS5 on my 3Gs and that's going to blow.

I wish I could update iTunes to 10.3 to check out the new features, but right now it's saying 10.2.2 is the current version.

Bummer.

It still bothers me that PC's are associated with windows. News flash apple: Mac's are PC's.

Technically yes they are, but its pretty clear that Apple is trying to get away from the lame terminology of the PC. They are too cool and hip for that. They're 'i' something. Much more personal than....'personal computer'

ACC is a higher quality file than MP3. That's why they use it. Though it sucks for compatibility purposes with other devices. Partly because competitors don't want to do Apple any favors.

I'd assume you could still do it the old way. I'm guessing it already be synced on there before you tried.

So I can't access the iCloud beta because I have the Verizon iPhone.

That sucks.

The iCloud beta as far as I know is only working for the Apps.

Re: Apple's WWDC 2011 starts Monday! (new OSX, iCloud, iOS5, iPhone?)

I watched the whole keynote just now...I wasn't too impressed when following the liveblog, but watching the video of iCloud in action is pretty awesome stuff considering this will be free (sans iTunes Matching). It's a paradigm shift of how we think about communicability of files and media. It's not perfect, but for a 1st time rollout it seemed incredibly easy and flawless.

Lion is nothing impressive to me (I think Apple charging $29 proves they realize that too).

iOS 5 however is much more impressive. iOS still lacks some obvious changes (non-static icons), but they did a good job adding a lot of jailbreak/third party app type features this time around.

Re: Apple's WWDC 2011 starts Monday! (new OSX, iCloud, iOS5, iPhone?)

The only thing that really confuses me is that the iCloud will have to use data, and with all the cell phone providers doing tiered data plans, it's going to cost people more money unless you have unlimited. I have the verizon iPhone on an unlimited plan that was grandfathered from my blackberry. How long until verizon gets rid of that? Cell phone companies knew this day would come where we would snatch data from a remote location. Kind of hindering our use of technology.

you weren't really grandfathered. as that would imply they don't have that option anymore. you will be grandfathered once they go tiered before your contract is up. after that, not so lucky.

The one part that confuses me. If I have 50 gigs worth of music in my iTunes library obviouisly that won't all fit onto my mobile device. Do we get to choose what will sync onto the other devices?

Well yeah, but Verizon iPhones are currently on running iOS 4.2.2. 4.3 is needed to use iCloud.

I've read that the full beta would roll out in the coming weeks.

Re: Apple's WWDC 2011 starts Monday! (new OSX, iCloud, iOS5, iPhone?)

i liked what i saw for the new iOS for iphone/pad...changes look good. all the more reason for me to get the new iphone in the fall.

ill pass on Lion...nothing special

but i wasnt overly impressed with iCloud. it seems to be that unless you own an iphone AND an ipad, or some kind of combination of the three (macbook, phone, pad), it really isnt all THAT useful. at least, nothing that you couldnt get from Amazon or Google's cloud. just a place to store your (limited) amount of music.

unless im just missing something.
