Also it made my day that there's a picture of Dave on the cover of the user guide.

I called a day after they installed my service to try and use TJ's referral and they wouldn't budge.

Although, $199 isn't bad, especially split over 5 months or whatever. Kinda bummed to lose Red Zone channel and the online part but fuck, that's not worth an extra $200.

The second reason is money. My cable company was offering a deal that if you bundled Internet, Cable & Home Phone together, it would be $120 a month. I was paying $110 a month for DirecTV out of football season..... a lot more during. I looked at the cable company's channel lineup and compared that to DirecTV's. There are actually MORE channels that I watch available for a lot less money on cable.

With a second kid due in August, I was looking for ways to cut back on costs. This one was a no brainer.

Re: DirecTV

So, for local channels, you are not provided with both a standard definition and a high definition channel. If HD is available for the local channels in your location, you can only watch the HD version (not that I'd want to watch SD, just making sure that I'm correct). Right?

I think so. All my locals are in HD on their default channels. There is no 13.1 etc for SD/HD

HD channels is what DirecTV does better than other providers, in my opinion (or at least Comcast). If there is an HD version of a channel, there is also a standard version of that station, but it has the same channel number. So what you need to do is go to your settings, then get to the display preferences and there will be an option for show/hide SD/HD duplicates. This has come in handy when it downpours by us - a lot of times the HD signal will be lost, but we'll still have SD and we just choose to show all duplicates and we can access the SD feed for the stations. It doesn't work all the time because sometimes the SD signal is lost as well.

Hopefully that helps.

Re: DirecTV

Loving this so far. Great quality with all the awesome sports on right now, and the best part: Game of Thrones on demand (along with every other HBO show) for the next couple months. Also can't wait for Sunday Ticket this fall.

Only downside is I wish I got Palladia - it's an extra $5 a month for the HD package that includes it. :/

No fucks given besides Comedy Central

I am on Directv's side, viacom is being rather cunty for wanting 30% more, for the same old shit. Yay CSI reruns on Spike, no thanks.

Re: DirecTV

Viacom is a piece of shit.

Miss Comedy Central, kind of miss crappy reality shows like Real World on MTV.

I have a feeling this might go on for awhile because DirecTV is offering up Encore channels for free until July 31st. I don't think they'd give a date that they were giving those away for free unless they thought this might go on for some time. I was reading an article in the LA Times and it says it's rare channels get pulled, but once they do, both sides dig in and it usually takes awhile.

No, DirecTV still has AMC, it was Dish that dropped/was talking about dropping it.
