Re: *^*^* Alpine 2012 *^*^*

Here's a little interesting story from my first time at Alpine (2010):

N2 just got over with and I'm sitting in the car exhausted by the long day - I had spent hours waiting in line to get a good spot in the pit (ended up getting front and center). Anyways, I'm sitting there and I see this guy dumping stuff out of car... for some reason, I remember him seeing him drop this full bag of chips and it just seemed rather odd.

Skip to the next morning, we realize that we lost our spare set of keys which had about six keys on the ring. My family and I are shitting ourselves. We call the venue and they never came across it. So we drive there and realize that the cleaning crew hasn't even scratched the surface of all the shit that was around everywhere which didn't cross our minds. Either way, we went to the lost and found and our keys weren't there. So we searched around till we found the general area where our car was. We searched around for about ten minutes and found nothing. I thought about the bag of chips but it seemed like a stretch. I looked for the bag of chips and found them! And wouldn't you know it... I looked around for five more seconds and found the keys!!!

Just thought it was completely impossible and I would never find the keys again. Great way to cap off one of the best weekends of my life.

Of course, that weekend was my first and (so-far) only time going to Alpine so I couldn't tell you exactly where in the lots we were because I'm not that familiar with the place. I think we had figured we parked about a couple hundred feet away from a row of trees so we just went from there. I still can't believe we were able to find it.

Here's a few pictures. One is of Dave when I was up close, another is what the lots look like when they're empty and the other is what the lots look like when they're full. Honestly, I don't really think the picture does it justice. When those lots are empty, its insane how large and empty it feels.

really thinking of making the trip to Alpine this year for the first time...I really like this venue from pics that I've seen and I've only ever heard great reviews! Past sets are pretty pimp too, sounds like it could be a good weekend!

tailgating is beyond awesome. Ive been going to alpine for a long time. Its not the most beautiful place ever ( gorge) but the acoustics are second to none. Yeah, theres douches there, but in 30,000 + people, there are gonna be douches. You wont regret going there

Re: *^*^* Alpine 2012 *^*^*

i have gone to apline every year since 2000. I have sat everywhere, and I have stayed everywhere, my favorite choices to stay are Snug Harbor they have real hotwater showers no matter what, and a restaurant on the grounds that serves breakfast etc, good stuff. And its on a lake for swimming etc. Othewise stay at Scenic ridge. they have swimming, decent clean camping and usually a good all around crowd to be around. Seating, if you want a really good experience, dont do lower pavillion unless your in the first 5 rows. Sit in Sec 202 in any of the rows A-Z, of course that would be the best, anything in 202 is really good, but those rows are the best, you are basically eye level with the band. I dont like being off the side at all. When I go now adays, if i dont get what i want from the warehouse, I pay to get what I want. Thats my advice to anyone who ever wants to have an "ultimate time"

Re: *^*^* Alpine 2012 *^*^*

As far as tailgating, I get there when the gates open, we tailgate until about 645-7 then go in. We make elaborate foods, such as deep frying a turkey, rack of ribs, beer can chicken, whatever. When we get back, We dont get in our cars...HELL NO, we tailgate and eat again until the security has to kick us out. Every year i watch people trying to leave and they move an inch an hour, literally for at least 2 hours; You are better off designating someone to drive everyone back, and hunker down and grill some more good food, Shishcobobs or whatever... good times

I always want to meet up with ants beforehand but never have. Last year I couldn't find where they were meeting. But I got the t-shirt fellow ants made and absolutely loved them. Hope they do another amazing one this year!

Hey Alpine...I'm normally a Deer Creek guy and am from Indiana. But my family is from Wisconsin and that is definitely the state I claim. I'm a Packer/Badger/Brewer fan, and made the trip to Alpine in 2010 for both nights of DMB..and I plan on coming back in 2012. Just wanted to say hey and I'll be poking my head in on this thread more in the future

I have never tried those. I don't think I've ever seen them. I do prefer taco and Cool Ranch to Nacho Cheese though.

I'm also chomping at the bit for the dates to be officially announced so I can put in my PTO request at my job. Goddamnit they had better give me the days off....otherwise Ill just quit. After a horriffic tragedy that caused me to break my tradition and miss Alpine 2010, there is nothing in this world (aside from death) that will stop me from being there celebrating my ass off in 2012. CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!

So are we calling this the "official" Alpine 2012 thread? If this is the case than can anyone tell me about the Alpine antsmarching.org t-shirts?

Alpine, comparing to other years, is still a little more than half a year away. There hasn't been many people in this thread, but once it gets going people begin to plan and design. But it can take a bit. I got my shirt last year fairly close to the date of the concerts (within a few weeks I believe), so it takes time.

Am I understanding that we are going to be forced to drive after each show? I guess I'm picturing that it was going to be like the gorge. Where we park and don't move the car at all the whole time.

So that's what everyone does? Is it feasible to walk it? I guess that would be kinda stupid though, with all the tailgating stuff and everything. Just trying to figure out what our options are and what the norm is.

There's nothing within walking distance, except a bunch of farms. You're going to have to drive no matter what.

Ms Emily is right. There are plenty of campgrounds near by and thats what most people do. There are also some towns that are close that you could find a hotel room at.

I'm sure I'll be nominated to do the driving at least one night, . And I don't mind camping, but I would be a lot happier if certain conveniences were readily available, like showers. I'm sure there are nicer campgrounds than others, do you have recommendations?

If you look on the first page of this thread you'll see a few posts from a guy who has extensive knowledge of Alpine camping, which would be a place to start.

As far as the driving thing goes, it's really not so bad. Our crew usually hangs out in the lot for an hour or so until the traffic clears.

Yeah, i saw those posts. Just wanted to try and get several veteran opinions.

And for sure my people will be hanging out until the mass exodus dies down, it's just the sobering up enough to drive part that's annoying. But if it's not far, the sobriety won't have to last long.

I'm sorry I can't help with the camping thing. I've only ever stayed in a hotel. Once the dates come out I'm sure the serious campers will pop in with details; I know a friend of mine had an extensive list of options that she shared with the thread last year.

I can speak to the sobering up thing, and like I said: it's not so bad. I just stopped drinking before I went into the show and pounded water the rest of the night. Plus if you're dancing around you just sweat it out anyway.

Any and all preliminary discussion is helpful. And I would so totally rather stay in a hotel, honestly. Jury's still out on that one. And yeah, we'll know more with this thing is officially official. But it makes me happy to plan! The Dave-less months can be rough.

Good call on dancing it out. Hooray Alpine '12.
