When the lots open at Starlake is always a little bit of a crap shoot. Some years they'll open as early as 2pm, other years it is as late as 4pm. A couple of fellow Ants and myself will be heading out there for the Phish concert this weekend, so I'm planning to chat up some of the parking lot staff while we're there to see what the "usual" lot opening time has been this year.

What we've done in the past is organize a caravan of cars from Raccoon Creek, past the entry to Bennett Acres to add on anyone camping there, and roll down to the venue. Sometimes we get there too early, and we have to gather along the road until the lots open.

We always tailgate in the first lot to the left. If you're arriving later, and aren't parked right near us. You can certainly grab your chairs and cooler and come on over to join the group.

There seem to be a lot of folks staying in hotels this year, so I'd like to coordinate a meetup with them somewhere too. Maybe meet us at the entry to Raccoon or something?

Awesome! I signed up for the tailgating updates, I have friends camping at Raccoon Creek and they mentioned coming and meeting them and all heading over together so we could get a spot next to each other. So that would work out really well.

I'm kinda excited, I'm bringing my friend, and she's a Dave virgin! So I'm really looking forward to giving her her first DMB experience!

Nice!! I love how you see the lot on the bottom left of pic 1...aka the pit of hell. Thats usually about 2-3 hrs to get out if you get stuck there then stay til after the encore.

That's awesome..it definitely is easy to get hooked..the tailgating in the lots, the sound of the band live, energy of the crowd, it all kinda sneaks up on you like a ninja & before you know it you're a DMB junkie..lol...

Still torn between where to camp. Bennett always seems to be pretty expensive the last 3 times. Anyone know the prices or info on camping at Raccoon? Also is there an minimum amount of nights you must stay?

I'm struggling with the same thing. Looks like Raccoon is $21/night/person plus extra if you want to be at a site with a shower: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/statepar...ping/index.htm

I've heard awful things about Bennett's amenities, locked bathrooms, non-working showers etc...

Where is everyone else going to be?

I guess it depends on what you are looking for when it comes to camping. Raccoon Creek is a more traditional camp ground with plenty of shade and trees and good bathroom/showers. You can't be as loud and party as hard as you could at BA. I've only camped at RC and really enjoyed it so that's my 2 cents.

Bennett Acres is very much like a frat house. At Raccoon you need to be a little smart with your drinking (technically it is not allowed), but as long as you mind your manners and behave like an adult you can still have a good time

Edit: Someone asked on the contact sheet where the best area to camp in Raccoon is. Most of us will be in the D-Loop. If that is full, any area in the campground is nice.
