Regarding Phillip Phillips

Would you even want to become famous knowing basically you are a ripoff of someone else?

He seems like a good guy, but he is the spitting image of Dave when he plays.

ONE of the main reasons DMB became so famous (other than talent and that jazz) was because of their originality. And #41's lyrics seem to prove that they wanted to play their own way, and didn't really care if they became famous...at least that's what I got out of it...(this could be another topic)

Interested to see what you guys think...

how is he copying someone. It might just be the way he plays. I mean its not his fault he looks like dave also.

Have you seen the video on youtube?

It IS HIS FAULT he mimics him. He could subconsiously be doing it...but still its correctable.

I hate being a dick, but it is one of my biggest pet peeves when someone (whether knowing it or not) blatenly rips someone off.

Kid is obviously influenced by him. Any of us who play guitar and like DMB have been influenced to some extent. While my original songs for the past decade or so really do not sound anything like DMB/genre....to say that we arent influenced isnt true.

IDK if he is trying to "be" just like Dave?

Whatever. I am not jealous or hating. Good for him, hope he does well. He represents many of us who have been playing music for years and trying to catch a break...

Not jealous of the kid at all. I think he is a good guy, but when you are on that kind of stage, in front of millions of people, you'd think you check to make sure you don't come off as someone else.

I can understand someone's MUSIC being influenced by Dmb, and the music having a slight resemblence. (In that regard, he doesn't 'mimic' Dave that much)

If he made it, and got filthy rich and famous, and got to live out his dream to make music for good money and a very comfortable living...i doubt he'd care too much about some hater on a message board attacking his originality.

The guy sings and plays guitar like Dave. OMG this band is fucked, there is an imposter out there!!!! I Highly doubt that guy goes on stage and says to himself "Make sure you lift that leg up and walk away from the Mic just like Dave". Who gives a shit really. I didn't know Dave trademarked his playing style.

If you don't hear Typical there I dunno what to tell ya. Throwing a capo on and playing different parts of the neck doesn't change anything.

He's a hack - go to a local happening open mic and you'll find a guy like this....

He's obviously very influenced by Dave Matthews, but so what? You guys have a problem with him because he draws inspiration and clearly wants to emulate the performance style of a musician you all love and adore?

He's a talented guy and I'm sure as he continues to find his own voice, his "Dave" mannerisms will wane. Sure, it's derivative, but the voice and the enthusiasm are there. Good for him for putting it to good use and bringing something different and interesting to a pretty irrelevant (in the DMB/non-pop music world) talent competition.

Drink some haterade today? Just because he teased a little Typical in his song doesn't mean he's a hack. Like you said yourself you don't even watch it so why are you commenting? The guy wanted to pay homage to his AND our idol and you hate on him for it? Thats just plain dumb. And to top it off, it's not like this guy is out there declaring he loves DMB on the show, he slipped in a little DMB (Typical btw, not Crash or I Did It) and I thought it was awesome.
