Re: so this seven opening shows isnt gonna be a thing is it?

Seven is a horrid opener. The set last night wasnt the best but I enjoyed myself the whole time. The only real qualm I have with the set is the flow. Feels like dave just threw a bunch of songs on the setlist without thinking of flow and continuity. Super energy followed by a come down immediately. If the same set was reorganized slightly better the show would have been much better.

Re: so this seven opening shows isnt gonna be a thing is it?

I don't think Dave honestly tries to underwhelm the crowd. I just think he has too high an opinion of the stuff he's written for the past 10 years. He loves songs like Seven and Cornbread and Can't Stop, and thinks we should too.

I don't know. It's like whatever happened during the 2000-2001 period soured him on his older music, save Jimi Thing, Ants, Satellite, Crash and the obvious ones. He seems to play less and less of it as the years go on. Maybe in his depressed state during that time he thought the most of the people in the big crowds were not paying attention anyway, so he will play what makes him feel good. As has been mentioned, he has to know his fans want to hear more of the older material. Honestly, I wouldn't mind Seven opening if I knew there was at least an inkling of a chance it would be followed by BOWA, Recently, Typical Situation, Dreaming Tree, Last Stop, Lover Lay Down, The Stone, DIDO, or any number of older songs that get minimal to no play.

All that said, I'm still super excited for Alpine and Burgettstown next month.

I like Seven. I also like Seek Up, Bartender, the Stone, and DDTW. As openers, I would prefer any of the last four over the first one, but either way I would have a great time.

Seven is horrible live. That said, I am loving that amazing Warehouse/Grey Street encore.

what a great encore. This is how easy it is. Take 2 awesome songs that you play all the time, know inside and out, and put them in the encore. Bang! Fucking awesome.

Close. I think it's more line 2 at the expense of line 1. He has way too high an opinion of the last 10 years and doesn't care if the crowd likes it or not.

Of course, the "crowd" is no help as they cheer anything and everything.

Re: so this seven opening shows isnt gonna be a thing is it?

I think all problems would be solved if these songs were simply NOT played at all:

Cornbread
Can't Stop
Everyday
Spaceman
Funny the way it is
Shake me like a monkey
Out of my hands
Eh Hee

There. I did not take away one good song. Surely they can still make a set or two out of what's left.

I'm as sick of Everyday as everyone else on here, but it would be absolutely stupid of them to shelve it. This one brings the loudest reactions and I'm sure people who aren't on the message boards would be rather disappointed if it never showed up. I wish it'd go away, but I understand a lot of people love it and that's why they play it. Not everyone shares your/my/ants.org tastes.

It does get some reaction, but I still think it could disappear and no one would miss it. It was really nice seeing a few shows at the beginning of the tour where it didn't show it up and gave us the (false) hope that it would be gone.

And its definitely the best of the songs I listed. Truly, Everyday played at a show full of great tunes, does nothing to detract from the show. Everyday played at show with several other duds, adds nothing to the show.

I've been at plenty of shows where before it/between songs/during the encore break, kids are singing "Hani Hani" and I wanna turn around and shhh them for fear that DMB would opt to cut a song I favor of giving in (ie Raven at Blossom in 2009)

Re: so this seven opening shows isnt gonna be a thing is it?

I don't come here often, and I haven't been a fan of this band for as long as most of you...so I could care less what people think of me here, but seriously some of you guys are the biggest cry babies I've ever seen.

This is a solution for everyone who is bogging down every thread with complaints:

If you don't like their new music....don't listen to it.
If you don't like the setlists.....don't go to the shows
If you just want to hear the big 3...delete your account and spend time listening to BTCS over and over and over

t-minus thirty seconds before someone posts "solid contribution to the thread" blah blah

This thread is everything that's wrong with DMBc. Myself included for getting involved with it. So yeah I'm done with this thread. Peace.

I was so happy for the strong ending. So Right was fantastic. But it wasn't great till R&R. From WWYS on though it was awesome. I don't care what some people are saying... Warehouse in E1 was better than if they had been switched. Expecting something softer and a warm up to a big song then bam. Stop time intro. That was so badass.

While I wouldn't enjoy getting a Seven opener (or hearing it at all), every time I read a bitching thread on DMBc, I just picture people like SpotlightEyes and craskintonick as this kid. Can't be far off.

I love how you always post that it's pathetic that people react the way they do to your posts, but it's obvious that you are getting the responses you want when you post shit.

I have seen you say you are close to giving up on DMB multiple times since I have been posting here. When is that going to happen? Because the boards would be a much better place without you.

Re: so this seven opening shows isnt gonna be a thing is it?

Let me take the other side of this...I am so sick of people saying, "if you dont like it, dont go...or, dont spend the money...or, get off the boards."

This is where people go to DISCUSS. Dont any of you have a favorite sports team or something else that you are passionate about? Dont you ever critique or criticize? Do you have to have unconditional love because you are a fan? I defend this band all the time to people who arent huge fans...but, on these boards, I feel like I can get down and dirty and communicate my thoughts. That can mean, praise or complain. I dont think anyone is crying like a baby. I think it is just frustration.

Dont you ever listen to BTCS through your headphones and say to yourself, "Jesus, WTF happened to these guys?" I am not crying, I just dont know what happened. The shows are fun but they have 40+ outstanding songs that could be in rotation with a few new ones. I think it is frustration and a little bit of head scratching.

One of the douchiest things I've ever seen you post. You somehow keep raising the bar. Congrats on the win, bro.

Was at the show last night and I wasn't too excited about the Seven opener but it definitely got people moving.

As to why Dave plays the newer songs so much, did you ever think he plays them just because they're new and exciting? All the songs the diehards want to hear had a place in time where they were common. It's not 1998 anymore. Warehouse for example was played about 500 times before 2000. Now it's somewhat of a rarity. Recently is another example. 460 plays before 2000. No wonder it doesn't get played that often. He and possibly some of the band members are tired of playing them, hence having sets with 4 new songs and 3+ BW songs.

Songs like Warehouse and Recently have also been taken in many different directions. I think Dave and the band gets more excitement and enjoyment out of seeing where the new songs can grow and flourish. Examples of that would be SDL, LITHOG, and Funny.
