Re: so this seven opening shows isnt gonna be a thing is it?
I don't think Dave honestly tries to underwhelm the crowd. I just think he has too high an opinion of the stuff he's written for the past 10 years. He loves songs like Seven and Cornbread and Can't Stop, and thinks we should too.
I don't know. It's like whatever happened during the 2000-2001 period soured him on his older music, save Jimi Thing, Ants, Satellite, Crash and the obvious ones. He seems to play less and less of it as the years go on. Maybe in his depressed state during that time he thought the most of the people in the big crowds were not paying attention anyway, so he will play what makes him feel good. As has been mentioned, he has to know his fans want to hear more of the older material. Honestly, I wouldn't mind Seven opening if I knew there was at least an inkling of a chance it would be followed by BOWA, Recently, Typical Situation, Dreaming Tree, Last Stop, Lover Lay Down, The Stone, DIDO, or any number of older songs that get minimal to no play.
All that said, I'm still super excited for Alpine and Burgettstown next month.
