"Me and Her" - rare old tune

What a beauty this is. Boyd-heavy, solo, subtle lyrics

Only played once-

Pico Vs Island Trees

Code:
Description from CD Universe:

The only thing more asked about than the origins of the name Pico vs. Island Trees is the origins of their sound. "By incorporating elements of jazz, bluegrass, rock, pop, and even hip hop, Pico Vs. Island Trees creates something incredibly out of the ordinary (Daily Tar Heel)." The name actually comes from the court case where Stephen Pico led a group of high school students against the Island Trees school Board protesting the banning of books, such as Huckleberry Finn, from school libraries. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, where Pico indeed won. All this was decided while the band was still in high school. Bryan Carter (Vocals, Percussion) and Jeremy Bullock (Guitar, Vocals) started the band after performing at a school talent show, and later recruited Chris Karlsson (Guitar), B. Howell (Bass), and Brandon Allen(Drums) to create what Pico is today. February 10, 2004 marked the release of their debut album, "Just Wait," on Deep South Records. The Bobby Patterson produced record has received rave reviews everywhere and has garnered vast college and AAA radio play from Maine to Florida. The first single, "Brand New Set of Wings," has "enough sweetness and silliness to charm the pants off any number of fans (Daily Vault)," and the second single, "More Than You Could Know," amply illustrates that "this is music full of innocence and youthful enthusiasm, which makes it irresistible (All About Jazz)." Although often compared to the likes of Ben Folds Five (Robert Sledge played bass on "Six Up"), Guster, and Maroon 5, Pico has been able to "effectively show both light and dark sides, an essential that can often be absent from bands much senior in years (Glide Magazine)." Another writer said the best part of Pico's music is "the eclecticism of the music (DTH)." Throughout the bands travels around the Carolinas in the past year, this has been a huge reason that Pico has become "a veritable club favorite (Independent Weekly)." The future looks bright for Pico, as they recently turned out the biggest crowd of the summer touring season playing the Plaza Stage at ALLTEL Pavilion at the Dave Matthews Band show to an over capacity crowd and continue to surprise even themselves at every new venue. Expect big things this year, as Pico is poised to take their "sophisticated pop" to a town near you.

Recorded at A Red, Red Room Recording Studios, Raleigh, North Carolina between February and August 2003.

Pico Vs. Island Trees: Jeremy Bullock (vocals, guitar, bass); Bryan Carter (vocals, drums, percussion); Chris Karlsson (guitar).

Tracklist:

01 Getting Over 4:18
02 Saying The Opposite 3:16
03 Mother of Pearl 4:49
04 In the Sky 4:15

Re: "Me and Her" - rare old tune

I cannot freakin' believe this, OP. I was on Stream at work earlier today and was browsing some older sets from '94. Ran across the Georgia Theatre show on April 6th and noticed it was a soundboard....then I noticed "Me and Her" and the asterisk said it was the first time played. Never heard it before, so looked up on the 'nac to find it was the only time played. So I listened and started searching Ants for a previous thread to learn more...nothing. Been thinking about creating a thread to ask what the community thought about this song and also the show. Can't believe I'm seeing this thread today, so thanks you beat me to it!

Anyway, only listened to it twice, but like it so far. Probably need some more time with it to really see if I love it or not. Looking at the set, I'd probably pee in my pants if they played this set at a show today!

Re: "Me and Her" - rare old tune

I always felt Me & Her was related to Kind Intentions....similar C/D progression......both were played in Athens (Kind Intentions during the 2/5/94 soundcheck). Not a huge fan of the studio Kind Intentions but the souncheck version is fantastic:

I just stumbled across it on the tube today at work, gave it my first listen, and loved it. I came on here to search for a thread about it, but "me" and "her" were too simple of words to show any results, so i figured i'd make my own.

I saw Warren Haynes there a few months back - really nice small venue. Were you there by any chance?

Anyone else hear some similarities between this song and Boyd's recent doodling at Grand Central Station for Faces In The Mirror?

I've always thought Me and Her was kind of flat.

Getting Higher on the other hand is a fucking beast. If they whipped that out at Gorge.......the place would spontaneously combust into a cloud of THC.

I think Boyd can still really play the violin. I just think he tries to "fit" the other members of the band instead of soloing like he used to. Back in the day when it was Roi and Boyd going back and forth, you could see the talent that Boyd has. I think it has to do with the new chemistry of the band. Boyd doesn't overall fit into the new electric/horn heavy sound DMB has moved into. If Tim were to drop (nothing against Tim), I think you would hear a Boyd closer to the older days of the band.

My opinion is based on the fact that Boyd still plays very well by himself or just a couple of other people. I think he gets overwhelmed with how "big" the DMB sound has become.
