song chants/signs and songs hardly work, right? so...

instead of PIG signs/noses, plastic spoons Halloween and last stop chants...

maybe it'd be better to start chanting for seven and holding up signs for it, big cardboard cut outs or bring baking pans full of cornbread and throw them up on stage... thoughts?

OP I'ma bring a Mossberg 12 shotgun to the pit at my next show and start waving it around. You think they will play Shotgun if I do that?

Much better chance if you have an actual shotgun in your hands.

Or we could not request anything.

Fonz has said that chants dont work and signs do work. As much as I hate signs, if you are close it's the way to get a song played.

Re: song chants/signs and songs hardly work, right? so...

I heard about someone holding up a sign that said "Play whatever you want." at one of the recent shows and apparently Dave acknowledged them and thanked them. I like that idea or just no signs. Let the band play what they want, it is their music and they should be allowed to play whatever they want when they want without people egging them on for certain songs.

I'm going to start bringing signs for Nickelback and Creed songs, then.

i think everyone is missing the point... the point is so they DON'T play these songs (cornbread, seven, eh hee, etc.) since they don't seem to acknowledge requests maybe they won't play them anymore if we request them.

everyone chant "open with seven" the rest of the tour

Halloween chants occasionally work. See AC n3. But for the most part, signs work better.

Haahaha. A buddy of mine that I've brought to a couple DMB shows always gets drunk and starts chanting "NEON DAVE!!!! PLAY NEON!!!" or "YOU'RE BODY IS A WONDERLAND, DAVE!!!!" just to get reactions out of the people around us. Never gets old.

Re: song chants/signs and songs hardly work, right? so...

Pig puppets and stuffed animals were in the pit at DC this weekend. Coincidence? Either way, I think that signs with songs on them should say home... get creative and figure out a way to get carter to acknowledge you so that you get a stick... best one i've hear of was, "Carter! Stick my wife" love this band.

Well I hope signs are what get the bands attention--I'm gonna be in pit for both nights in Camden and had a friend of mine draw me this poster. I absolutely love this song and really hope that this poster gets them thinking about it N1 and they pull it out mid-set for N2. Would be a dream come true. Also I think it's a little better taste wise then bringing an actual double barrel into the pit haha.

Re: song chants/signs and songs hardly work, right? so...

So I am anti sign, mostly because whoever makes said sign thinks they need to hold it up between every song and it blocks the view for a lot of people ... they do ..

Everyone always says "let the band play what they want" .. and to a large point I agree.. but at the same time, we are paying customers.. and in any business.... which believe it or not the band makes A LOT OF MONEY off of us, the customer is the one who is supposed to feel satisfied with their experience.

Saying let the band play what they want is like going to your favorite restaurant and saying "eh let them serve me what they want!" .. which in some cases works well if you are truly in love with the restaurant and it's some amazing chef.. But at the end of the day, if they start slipping and playing / serving up "what they want" gets stale or isn't as good as it once was, you better believe the customers will start disappearing, as will the reviews from "outsiders".

So far, Gaucho and Mercy are not doing it for me... so if we get 8 more songs like this that get on regular rotation in the fall, you better believe this guy isn't going to many shows.. which is a shame because I like pretty much everything the band has done, especially BW.

Also, if you all haven't noticed in recent years the band is getting less and less pub from mainstream media. Maybe it has to do with them just being around for so long, or maybe it has to do with them playing want they want a little too much..

So, play what you want DMB.. but make it good!

next show i'm going to wear a pig nose with a spoon in one hand, a shotgun in the other with raven feathers all over me, a hands free sign that says minarets on one side and cry freedom on the other while i start a last stop chant...that's what this thread is driving at right?

All we need to do is bring signs that say "#BlueWater4Pittsburgh"

This logic doesnt work at all. It would be like going to a big event where people pay for an amazing chef to cook them dinner. The ticket doesn't say anything about what will be served. No matter what the chef makes, some people will love it and some people wont. How it would relate to the boards here is as if the chef made something and people who weren't there said "oh i hate that dish! what a terrible meal. those people got gypped"

I know what you were going for though. I still think the band can play whatever they want and they don't owe anybody anything. Some hardcore fans will be upset if they play a "bad set" but the other 19,900 fans there will have loved the show.
