Re: Studio Version of Mercy

I guess I'm missing something. This song does nothing for me. Listened to it twice, and actually shut it off half way through the second time. It's lacking. It sounds like its building to something, and never gets there. There's no groove, there's no hook that sticks in my head. I've forgotten everything about it already. This couldn't have made it anywhere near Crash. It's not just the speed. Take PM, it's similar in overall tempo, (I'm not a musician, so probably not using the right word) but PM has interest and changes. This song is boring.

It is curious that a song which has gotten almost 100% positive reviews doesn't seem to register with you....

Listening to Carter alone makes this song interesting to me. I think everyone else sounds great also.

Re: Studio Version of Mercy

the only problem i have with it is for the first minute or so, in some parts it sounds like dave is trying to fit too many words in some spots and it just sounds ehh on those parts. but other than that, the music is fucking brilliant, the lyrics are outstanding, and that end jam is just...........wow. perfect

No. The radio cut will be shorter (3:15 or so i'd guess)

Oh, I'm well aware I'm in the minority. Didn't care for it much when I heard the first live cuts, was hoping the studio would bring something we weren't getting live. Guess not. It's performed well and produced perfect, but that doesn't make it a good song to me, that's all.

Re: Studio Version of Mercy

Really strong production. Really strong instrumentals by everyone. BT sounds solid. Tim's work with the jam/choppy section before the piano breakdown. Brilliant. Jeff and RR adding little grace notes.

I'm excited.

Strong reading skills we have here.

I stick around because I know what the band is capable of and hope to witness it at shows from time to time, and Alpine 2008 is a reference point I made because it was all-time great stuff. I don't bash every new song they come out with or every show I go to, but I'm also not blind to the fact that, in terms of new material, they're past their prime. And that's ok.

Also, smoke more marijuana.

The studio version is nice, but i'm not noticing any direct differences from how they're playing it live nowadays. Jeff and Tim play the same riffs during the outro in the live versions
