Don't take it personally. This is how it has been for every new song/studio version of a song for this album. First, you have all the people who really seem to be genuinely excited about this album talking it up and appreciating the music dominating a thread, but once that tones down, the naysayers start popping up which is fine. I mean everyone has an opinion. I just wish people wouldn't try to tell everybody how they should or should not feel about something, and that goes for both sides.

Mercy had no staying power on me, haven't heard it in ages... but this is pretty cool. Was very curious about what it segued into, then I saw it was Gaucho..............

This sounds really good. A lot of Boyd (+ other strings, me thinks). Itīs powerful, definitely better than the live versions.

Whoaaaaaaaaa

I realize some people don't enjoy the "puppy for your love" line in LYD, but really.. Mercy's lyrics are no less cheesy (e.g. "gotta get, gotta get, gotta get"). Plus, how can you go wrong with Roi's whistling talents?

Mercy is not above Let You Down on my list just yet (mostly because Let You Down is not low on my list).

Re: Studio Version of Mercy

The most DMB sounding song from the band in 10 years thanks to Lillywhite. Everything about this song is beautiful. Thank God they are still making music like this. Some people just don't know what they have right in front of them until it's gone. Enjoy this while it lasts..

must be a big fan of opera then, huh? the big fat lady "feels it", doesn't make me like it. the lyrics in this song are poor, and the song is lacking. it just is. I can't understand all the love for this incredibly boring song.

That's not Cavallo, that's purely Boyd and the band. Cavallo is a good producer, he was in a rough situation when Roi died, and did what he could. He re-energized the band, and honestly is probably part of the reason we are as fans, in the situation we're in right now.

Difference in opinion I guess, but this song is way better both lyrically and musically than Let You Down for me.

I think Let You Down is immensely better than this.

Mercy is a decent song... I like it, but Let You Down just feels so much better.

Re: Studio Version of Mercy

Love it - I was ok with the first listen on Fallon, it improved a lot with full band and I think it is even better on studio with more of Boyd on it - still think that this thing is going to continue to grow and build into a stronger song - nice!!

Still have another 11 wks to wait though

Awesome. The only thing that bums me out about this track is that it starts to fade out right when Jeff starts playing some interesting lines over the jam.

it's not that I dont like it...in fact, I love the last minute and a half. But, I think there is some serious overraction on these boards. Yes, everyone is involved and I think Lillywhite took an ok song and made it really pop.

But, I also feel that they keep recycling this kind of song for the radio...American Baby, FTWII, You and Me and now Mercy and Gaucho. I think that's why so many non-hardcore fans tell me that this band's songs all sound the same. Not that all of those singles have the exact same meaning, but the singles have become too fluffy, IMO.

That said, the ending does create a long-awaited nostalgia of the early years.

The outro has so much room to grow. Jeff seems a lot less in your face and more floating above the music like Roi used to. I am impressed!

Re: Studio Version of Mercy

Jeff honestly sound like Roi on this. Really digging the long outro to the song. I love that it's long and faded out. I have hopes that this album might be good afterall. Wasn't too impressed with Goucho, but this song really has my pumped.
