Yes, it's a fantastic song, especially live, and we can stay that now.

I am almost certain that the people voting for DDTW were either too young when it came out or simply do not remember how much people HATED that song when BTCS was released. If you're reading this and thinking "wow how could people hate DDTW???" You've got to remember that at the time that the studio released BTCS, DDTW was considered dog shit.

WWYS or WAYG is definitely their best "single" according to the OPs original question.

Musically, DDTW is my favorite. In fact, I love the studio cut a lot more than the modern aggressive live version. I agree with you that it's not the most effective single, but the best? Absolutely, in my mind.

My post was mostly a joke in response to the post I quoted, but I'm not sure you are right. Got this from Wikipedia, so I don't know if it's up to date, but it appears that Too Much, American Baby, and FTWII (on select charts) all charted higher than I Did It. I would agree that the Everyday album was amazingly effective in bringing lots of new people in, but I think The Space Between gets most of the credit for that, not I Did It.

The studio Too Much was really amazing to me when it hit. For whatever reason it just fucking rocked, especially after the singles from UTTAD- not that they didn't, but it was good for people to hear a different side of the band, break them out of the pajama pants hippy perception.

Funny, I loved the song when it first came out, along with pretty much everything else on BTCS, as did most everyone I knew who was into the band at the time. It wasn't until joining Ants and backreading a bit that I came to realize the disdain some had for this song, and a lot of BTCS. Speaks volumes of the typical Ants mindset, anyways. I see the same thing happening again with the new songs from Away From the World...a lot of negativity here, but I think that this album is shaping up to be "big 4" worthy.

Wait.. didn't ants start in 2004? And there was negativity for BTCS as late as 04? I remember hearing there was confusion when the album first came out since it was so different... but 6 years later? Damn.

DDTW. I remember hearing it on the radio, and taping it. I think it gave a good preview of the direction the album was going in. I don't care if people hated it at the time. Personally, I didn't have a computer then, so I had no idea what the other opinions were.
Also, I had a tape of the 2/19/96 show, so I was pretty surprised that "Weight Of The World" tuI think it was pretty ballsyrned into a single.

I got UTTAD in 94 after hearing What Would You Say on the radio.

The song got me into the band, so I would say it was an extremely effective single.

My first experience with the band:

had heard "crash (into me)", "American baby", and "Satelite". Didn't give two shits about the band.
2008, see my first dmb show at rothbury, blown away, I return home and decide which studio album to buy on itunes by checking the samples. I hear "The Last Stop" and I buy BTCS. Hooked ever since. So for people like me, Last Stop should have been the BTCS single... I don't believe I'm the norm in any sense, haha.

DDTW fo sho. Its the anti-single single. It's not catchy, it's not short, it's not superficial & loaded with cliches. Its a powerful song with a good message. It also had a cool music video back when that was a thing. Dudes jamming in the rainforest.
