Artists of the last 10-15 years that will survive the test of time

Who are some artists of the last 10-15 years that you think will be recognized later down the line as truly great and timeless?

For me a couple really come to mind immediately:

John Mayer
Radiohead
Coldplay
Pearl Jam

To be quite honest i feel like Rap is a genre that doesn't have much staying power and is very much a 'periodical' in terms of quality, versus rock music that has instrumentation and singing and production quality that is layered.

As much as I like them, I have to agree with this - too soon to say whether they've got real staying power.

I think we need some clarification on "test of time" because half of these already aren't very relevant today.

Doesnt really matter. All bands have to do is survive, and they can still tour and find dumb people to go to their shows. See Poison for example

Re: Artists of the last 10-15 years that will survive the test of time

So far you've all listed a whose who of corporate artists who play it safe. They might make great music, but they are also playing right into the system of insanity. Not one of those people really stand up for what's right in this world. They are all in on it, and it is a very bad thing.

John Mayer is an Abercrombie Stevie Ray Vaughn. No idea why any grown man would be mesmerized by that guy. If you are a girl, maybe.

Yeah Pearl Jam and Radiohead are pretty good, but come on, man, the test of old man time is hard.

Those who know about my art know how I feel. I don't want to come on here self promoting, but if you know about the best of my art and don't list me, you are an idiot.

The difference between me and all these people you are listing is that I really have made the best art in the world. The people you list just go around this world like they own it, but they are a slave to it.

I really don't care, but for my art's sake, yeah, I'll stand up for it if you won't. My art is the best and better than anyone you are going to list except for maybe Bob Dylan or John Lennon.

Brian Jonestown Massacre
Guided By Voices
The Black Crowes
The Cult
Bonnie Prince Billy

Some of those guys have been around a while, but their material is strong and will stand the test of old man time.

Re: Artists of the last 10-15 years that will survive the test of time

Seriously, if you are gonna list Coldplay and Viacom Machine type "artists", you are an enemy of real art.

Industry clowns, all of them. Cash cows. Told what to do. Everything Bill Hicks knew better than.

Nevermind that these people in real life are spiteful brats with not a sincere bone.

Most of you are listing bands that are the mouthpieces of occult activity and satanism, stuff that should never be given credit for anything besides being wrong.

Most of you are listing a bunch of wankers.

Some of these lists are a testament to the use of propaganda and marketing. Say anything enough and people will believe it. Bizzare and sad what some of you people take seriously.

How anyone could list Kanye West is unbelievable. Not interesting, not good. Vampire who lives off of agitation. All hype.

This is about who you think is great, not who Google news and your programmers think you should like.

Tell your iPad that I make art and am comin' for you, nigga.

Jay-Z has been pretty relevant for a while now.

I'll agree with The Cult and Black Crowes. Do you remember what The Cult was before they called themselves The Cult?

If I weep, it's out of sadness for some of the people here.

I don't want to take this too seriously, it's just a fun list game, a bit of speculation, but it is frustrating as a real artist to see people listed that I know my art is better than.

It's not a popularity contest thing, but a matter of principle. For art's sake. I make the art, I get credit. Not the people who cheat the masses.

I just love my art, the best of my pictures and writing are the fucking best. Fucking best of all time.

Yeah, I know. Cult and Southern Death Cult. Ian was great singing with The Doors. And now he is married to the wonderful Aimee Nash. Lucky and talented man.

If you base your opinions on music industry tabloid make believe.

Too bad money can't buy real art or a soul.

All of these industry people are bad, but to be elite, you have to be bad as shit. Total brown noser with no ideals or conscience. Total sell out and willing to comply with the scum of the Earth.

All for a pimped outdated limo ride to hell, all for some fake image desperation to secret handshake the emperor of dirt.

Not just Jay-Z, all of them are that way. They have no plan.

The worst was 50 Cent making jokes on Twitter about the victims of the Asian tsunami.

You all can keep him as a celebrity in your mind, but just leave me the fuck alone.

“Its all good Till b*tches see their christian louboutins floating down da street shit gone get crazy.”
“Wave will hit 8am them crazy white boys gonna try to go surfing.”
“Look this is very serious people I had to evacuate all my hoe’s from LA,Hawaii and Japan. I had to do it. Lol”
Later, 50 tweeted the word “sorry.” He followed that up with two messages acknowledging how serious the tsunami was:
“Nah this is nuts but what can anyone do about it. Let’s pray for anyone who has lost someone.”
“Some of my tweets are ignorant I do it for shock value. Hate it or love it. I’m cool either way 50cent”
