You were the one that brought up the album rankings, which were never pertinent to the thread, so I don't see why you'd be so hesitant to continue talking about them now. Your logic-based mind should really enjoy the opportunity to use logic to defend itself here.

If you like the Crash and UTTAD songs live, but dislike the album versions, that leads me to assume that you dislike those albums exclusively because of the production on them? Am I correct? And if so, isn't that just taking a really narrow approach to music?

Also, your top ten list appears to contain 1 song from Crash, and 0-1 songs from Everyday and Stand Up, depending on which song makes the #10 slot. What's the deal with that? I have loads of other questions, but that'll do for now.
I posed that we should carry this on in another thread that's more relevant, or a PM conversation; anything away from this thread. However it seems you're desperate to keep it in this thread, which doesn't bother me. I thought though it may bother other people who want to keep talking about more relevant issues.

I put my list of rankings in THIS thread because it's different and could be seen as 'guilty pleasure'. I offered a more detailed/deeper discussion in a more relevant thread so as not to disrupt this one too much.

Also, I never said I disliked Crash or UTTAD. I love them both, and think they are among the best albums ever created.

I like your questions.
To answer your 'production' questions: Yes, a large part of it for me is production. The music can be amazing but if it's not produced how I like it then I don't particularly enjoy (relatively) listening to it. Why that is may be down to either/both nature or/and nurture. I don't know. But production plays a big part, yes. I wouldn't say it's narrow-minded if it's my tastes. I am musically (and hopefully regarding most things) very open minded: I love Coldplay, Slipknot, Hiromi's Sonicbloom, loads of styles of music. I love Crash and UTTAD, but I love listening through SU+ED more.

To answer your last question: I believe that in the DMBZilla epic album ranking thread where we voted 0-10 on songs from all the albums, I voted both Crash and UTTAD higher than SU. And possibly even higher than ED. That however is due to them not being whole-album rankings, more song-rankings. I took into consideration live and studio, and sentimental value as well. I have done that with my top 10 as well. As a whole though, I prefer listening all the way through SU+ED.

(I said the Mensa thing because you stubbornly refused to accept I could be a rational being. I was not claiming to be a genius. Or, rather, the intention wasn't to claim to be a genius )

(You're probably an awesome guy, and I would claim not to be a douche... alas, here we are!)

Re: What is your DMB Guilty Pleasure?

Seven is awesome -- I guess it's a guilty pleasure because it seems half this board doesn't enjoy it for some reason, but I love the studio version and love hearing it at a show. I think it's great.

I also think I Did It fits this category... I think it's probably in the bottom third of DMB songs in terms of quality, but I always viewed it as What Would You Say's fuckup cousin who is a piece of shit but is a lot of fun to party with.

Others on the list are
Steady As We Go
Blackjack
Dreamgirl
and I'm putting Jimi Thing up here because it gets no love while people are setlist watching.

Re: What is your DMB Guilty Pleasure?

at a show definitely seven and rapunzel. being in the pit usually it's always fun to see the fans closest to the band dancing and having a great time since the band feeds off that energy a lot. those 2 songs this past weekend at alpine were amazing.

I love everything from BWATGK, including Shake Me, Funny, and You & Me.. The only time I groan a little at sets is during Can't Stop, Eh Hee, and OOMH

Re: What is your DMB Guilty Pleasure?

Guilty pleasure...Antsmarching.org forum.

as far as songs I had no idea that Fool to Think was met here with such disdain but its been a favorite of mine since the first time I heard it as well as So Right. Break for It and Break Free much the same Ive loved since the first note (the IEM of Break Free with someone playing that loose, higher octave of the riff grabs me almost inappropriately in a funny place) and I've been lucky enough to catch both live recently. which brings me to Stand Up which should only be played in a REVERSED medley like 2010, starting with Recently(with the full intro preferably including the some people do bit)>Stand Up>Cornbread or recently>cornbread>stand up.

And who said Rapunzel...who the fuck dont like Rapunzel. You silly.

Dreamgirl - LT10

Stand Up (For It) - Weekend on the Rocks
ABI - LT10
American Baby - LT6
Smooth Rider - LT6
Everybody Wake Up - 6/3/12 (Blossom)
Out Of My Hands - D&T Radio City
Hello Again - LT8
Louisiana Bayou - Live at Nissan (with RR)
Stolen Away - LT9
Die Trying - Live NYC 7/10
Steady As We Go - W8 Vol 3
Hunger For The Great Light - LT10

When I listen to it like that in order I really like it.
I have done this with Stand Up and Big Whiskey. Find my favorite live performances. It makes the music seem much better to me. I think its just the emotion from the band.

People who don't like Seven are silly, that song is awesome.

I guess a guilty pleasure of mine would be Eh Hee, that song is sweet and it rocks live...

Re: What is your DMB Guilty Pleasure?

Seven is my guilty pleasure, but that shouldn't count because that song fucking rocks. I'm a sucker for some of those shitty love songs like Steady as We Go and You & Me. I don't know why, they just resonate for whatever reason.

True, you didn't. For some reason I just assumed that you didn't like them. Your album rankings totally make sense now. Personally, I can't stand the production on Everyday. It's too shiny and glossy for my liking, which makes the whole thing my least favourite DMB album. I also agree with you that albums can be worth more than the sum of their parts.
