Rant done. Troll away.
You saw good shows this summer (unless I'm recalling differently). I did too.

But if my only show was Atlanta or SPAC N2 or Hershey, and then I saw last night's set, I'd be furious. The band should play great sets every night, and they decidedly don't. Alone got a great set because it was Alpine. That isn't right.

For me 2011-2012 I believe this is the best the band has sounded in years, they seem very in sync. What you hear is what you are going to get, it’s like a relationship, and there is a comfort zone that you always hit. Most of us here are 20, 30 even 40 shows in, we are a very tough bunch to please it seems. Just sit back and love the music. That’s really all you can do, there will never be a Dave Matthews Band ever again, and take it for all its worth now before it’s too late.
I agree but thats like settling for the ugly stripper when you know there are hotter strippers in the club

That's understandable and to an extent, I agree. The point I'm making is that the band can put on a good show no matter what they play. I went to Jones Beach N1 in 2009 and that was probably their worst show the whole tour. But I still enjoyed the hell out of that show.

I would be pissed though if I went to SPAC N2 and then saw the setlist from last night.

Not really because finding the hotter stripper is completely up to you. DMB playing the songs you want is up to them.

So, why is it that the only people bitching about Hershey are on this forum? Didn't hear a single complaint in our section during the show.

The band DOES play what the people at the concert want to hear.

I went to Spac N2 and I'm not mad about last nights set at all. I find it funny at this point that the band can be this inconsistent.

I just don't agree. I don't know how you can enjoy a show when they don't play good songs, no matter how well they play them, especially knowing what some of these other shows look like. I loved SPAC N1 and Camden N1 was a better encore away from being my favorite of the year, but comparing a show like Bethel, which was the definition of average, to last night is a joke.

Again, that's YOUR preference. It doesn't speak for the full fanbase. Looking at the two sets, I know people who would have preferred Bethel, with Funny, Grace, Eh Hee, Cornbread, Jimi, and So much to say.

Re: Theory about set lists

For the record Spac N2 didnt live up to its hype but was still a pretty solid show. I enjoyed the hell out of the later half of it. How can you say it was that bad when it still had Stone, Everyday, EWU, PNP>RApunzel, SMTS>>ASTB>>Too Much, RHyme and REason, a solid Jimi, stay, and Two Step. Sure nothing spectacular but still solid show.

The first half, minus Stone, was boring as hell. The rest was good, but I didn't pay for half a show.

I'm thrilled they played the set they did last night. It exposed the rest of the tour for how weak it's truly been.

I would def agree the first half was lack luster I did enjoy stone, everyday and seeing EWU was neat. Depending on how much you like YMDT and Crush the first half was def lacking. But It is a bit frustrating to see such a sparadic setlist showing. I think it breaks down to the band plays what they enjoy and what they want to each night. Last nights recording sounds like they just played the shit out of every song, with the fact that the songs are fan favorites. Jeff sounded incredible pretty much all night, and that DDTW was unreal.

Re: Theory about set lists

This is why I hardly even check setlists from other shows, especially when it gets close to a show I'm going to. I don't care what they play at other shows as long as I go and enjoy myself. People got to hear Seek Up and You Never Know last night and I didn't? Cool, good for them. But that doesn't change the fact that I had a good time at the show I was at.

You stop acting like the band owes you something and taking something you have absolutely no control over so seriously and just go for the pure enjoyment of the music, you might find yourself having a better time overall.

But hey, I could be wrong.... who knows... but this approach seems to have worked well for me since I started going to shows back in 2004. Oh well....

Who others? Casual radio fans (like yourself) who like loud songs and hits and don't care about substance and quality?

What did you think of the Nationals Park show in 2010?

No one thinks the band owes them anything. I would just like to see them consistently play great shows.

The band owes us as fans the best possible show it can give each night. That means both playing songs well, and playing great songs. Last night basically proves that the overwhelming majority of shows this year were not the band at its best.

Not really. I mean the band doesn't "owe" anyone anything. They could pack it up tomorrow if they wanted and wouldnt have to give an explanation if they didn't want to.

So the band doesn't owe ticket holders a show?

Technically, no. They can cancel if they want. They can walk off stage mid set if they want.

You cannot be serious.

You realize that if they cancel they'd owe all the ticket holders refunds, right?

Yeah, but that's not what you asked. You asked if they were owed a show. Technically, no. Like I said, the band can cancel any show they want.

You're bringing up ridiculous hypothetical situations that aren't normal, and in the process have turned the discussion in an unnecessary and pointless direction. Yes, they can cancel shows, but that is not common, nor should it ever be expected, so it's not worth discussing.
