taping equipment in venues

I was hoping I could get some advice/personal experience stories about getting your taping equipment into the show. Do security gaurds really question you about what your stuff is? I would think they might be suspicious of video taping stuff. I only ask because I'll be taping CMU and its my first time. I'm not sure if I'm going to take a mic stand so i'll just have my MD player and a mic.

depends on the venue
i have been places they don't even look at the stuff
i have had places say you couldn't bring anything in
i have places be cool at the door and assholes inside or vise versa
take the stand or its not really worth your time
you will prob need to flip discs 2 times as well so try and plan ahead--tim solos are good spots because dave has to walk on/off giving you a little more time to flip

Definately bring a stand. Also, I don't know if anyone taught you this trick, but before the show, record 5 sec. of silence on each of your discs. That way the TOC will load much faster when you're flipping discs. And definately bring 3 80 min. discs and a flashlight so you can watch your time.

For getting gear in, always find a security guy and be upfront about your stuff. Ask for "Main Gate" or "Head of Security". They will know whats up with taping. And usually they will be ones that search you. But as Willndmb mentioned, it's always different. If you're not using a Warehouse ticket to get in, bring a printed copy of the taping policy, and don't take no for an answer. At least not right away.

Above all, have fun!

Wow, I gotta give you guys a lot of credit. Very cool of you guys to take the time to give such vital advice... It'll come back to you 10 fold.
I bet many other places or people wouldn't have taken the time to fill that guy/girl in.

Good Job ya'll.
