Guitar Help?

hello,

I wanting to begin learning to play guitar and I am wondering what people think is a good guitar is for a beginner.

I'm looking mostly at the Washburn d-10s right now but my local Sam Ash has a Carlo Robelli that looked OK.

I've also seen some decently priced Fender acoustics too. The biggest problem I have is that I am left handed and a left handed guitar seems to be pretty hard to find.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Washburn guitar but I'm just wondering other peoples opinions.

Just set a price range and play what you think you can afford. Whatever sounds and feels good to you is your guitar.

I came really close to buying a Washburn D-10 (I think it was), but ended up getting something at a better price that time. I really liked it - warm tone and great projection.

HOWEVER - I would not recommend a Carlo Robelli. They are very cheaply made in Asia and are not as structurally sound as, say, a Washburn. They just don't last.

My first guitar was a jam pack from ibanez and is absolutely great. Fenders are nice too.

I ended up ordering the washburn d10 today. I can't wait to get it.

left handed guitars are so hard to come by but i got a decent price on it from www.samedaymusic.com. They had free shipping and a price match guarantee so I found the absolute lowest price I could on the net and the beat it.

this is true...

my first guitar was a washburn...
i still have it. it is a d-12N
they dont make them anymore... but washburn is a good guitar to learn on.
since then i have bought a fender strat. a takamine egs-330sc, and my newest baby( which i have payed for but dont yet have) a martin hd-35. i should have it by friday, hooray!

they're fine for a beginner guitar though, rob... i mean come on, they don't even know what they want it to sound like yet...

here's my advice, just PLAY everyday for at least 20 minutes, no matter what, everyday. just learn some chords like the first few weeks.

The fact he's new to guitar is an even stronger reason he should have the backing of a local store- they'll teach him to restring, teach him to set the neck, etc, all for free. Try getting that kind of support over the phone or email.

never got that type of support from guitar center. another reason to go to a smaller store.

Personally, I'd rather pay $30 more at an established mom and pops store and have support for the life of the guitar rather than saving a few bucks online and having nothing.

Have you looked at the Taylor Big Babys. I started with an Ibanez Jam pak 2 1/2 years ago, but bought a Big Baby 1 year ago. I love it. I think it's a great deal for about $350. Check it out.

I looooove my Washburn D10SCE. I really think I may have gotten lucky, though. It sounds better than guitars 3X it's price (I'm not the only one who thinks that).

Anyway, cheap prices, quality product, and a limited lifetime warranty....you can't go wrong.

Now on to the Limited Edition Taylor I've been dreaming (literally) about...

I second the Big Baby Taylor's. The best cheap guitar on the market. You will be amazed at the quality and Customer Service that Taylor offers.

BTW, I know you got a Washburn. This post is for people still looking.

I got lucky with my only mail-order at Musician's Friend. As soon as I ordered it, me and my dad were talking about it and I remembered, "Hey, you didn't play this one before you paid for it. Dumbass." It got here and I was real nervous tuning it up, but it played and sounded great. However, you won't find me doing that again. Toooooo much risk.
