no NYC fest?

just read this over at another site

http://nypost.com/seven/04182004/business/22815.htm

Concert canned

On Thursday, James F. Lima, president of the Governor's Island Preservation and Education Corporation, and Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff, decided to call off a secret plan for a massive Fourth of July weekend concert camp-in with the Dave Matthews Band.

While the proposal was canned because of the logistics of getting thousands of people to and from the island's ferry on a major holiday weekend, other smaller events are not being ruled out for later in the summer.

"This is not like Times Square where a million people can disappear in minutes," Lima said.

Re: no NYC fest?

Doesn't mean there won't be a festival. It just means that it won't be on Governor's Island. People jump to conclusions too quickly.

Re: no NYC fest?

Unless they had a backup plan in the works (spac is not a back up plan to a festival, I mean another festival location as a backup) than I dont see plans for a festival hapenning this year. Ya think how long its taken them from when they first hinted at the fact they were putting something together to yesterday when we hear it fell through, they need to go back and make up that lost time and start all over again.... unless they had something else as a backup.

Phil, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasnt there some yapping in the WH some guy posting inside festival info and the WH admins removing his posts, it was a while back before I got the boot. Anyway this guy was posting about a Michigan speedway location that he said was booked for 3 or 4 days by DMB, everytime he posted it on the WH boards they would remove his posts. And the WH RARELY removes posts, trust me I know!

spac is the backup to the festival. if the NY thing didnt work out, which it looks like it is not, then they have dates reserved at spac for those 2 days. this according to admin Matt and/or Jake in another thread on this topic

Re: no NYC fest?

I would prefer to have a little advance warning on when it is going to be. It would have been easier to decide what shows to goto and make work arangements. Now the rumor is 4th of July weekend but I mean concrete, date and location.

SPAC is simply backup concert dates, not a backup to the festival. Thats what I meant. I know all the rumors about SPAC dates for the two nights, but I mean an actual festival backup. SPAC is more like a NY backup plan, not a festival backup.

Yes Ian, I do remember that. Not sure how legit it was, but I take everything with a grain of salt.

EDIT: It does seem odd for the WH to remove the posts though.

Yeah I dont know how legit it was either except for the fact that it was the only post ever removed from the WH boards in recent memory besides my reverse seniority stunt. They didnt ever remove any of the other festival theories except for that one. It raised a flag, but thats about it!

While I'm here.... have you got any idea how many seats are in some of the side sections at the Gorge? Neither Ticketmaster or the House of blues customer service have a detailed map, so they couldnt tell me. I've got C row 11 seat 29 for opening night, and the higer the number the farhter to the outsdie edge you are. For some reason I am thinking you've been before and might have some sort of idea.

Not sure exactly how many seats there would be in row 29, but seat 29 should be in the middle part of the section.

Only the WH can remove posts and many people (me included) saw this post and responded to it, then it suddenly disappeared.

Re: no NYC fest?

the author can remove posts too, but he can onlyremove them BEFORE someonse posts a reply in it. And in this case I'm pretty sure people had replied, and as soon as someone replies to a post the only way to remove it is for the prick workin the phones at the WH to remove it.

Re: no NYC fest?

large festivals in close promixity are just too hard to do (just like the ones got cancelled last year due to permit issues). Thats why festivals should take place in the middle of nowhere with everyone camping and plenty of space

Yeah, it got quite a few replies before it was gone.

Re: no NYC fest?

Governor's Island was a ridiculous idea. How can 100,000 or however many people, get in and out of there if something were to happen that required an evacuation?

I don't post on the warehouse but don't they remove fake posts that cause bad rumors from the boards. Such as the reverse senority.

Sorry Ian, I meant to say row 11, but I didn't see that until I couldn't edit it anymore. I have no clue how many seats there are up that close. Never been up there that close

Re: no NYC fest?

yes they do take off posts and cancel memberships, you are correct yay yay, like I said this michigan post and the reverse seniority post are the only two that I can think of that they have removed in recent memory.

There are posts made every day with bad rumors, and back when this post was made there were daily festival rumor posts, but they singled this one out and left all the rest.
