DMB Back to NYC for Benefit
Posted by Jake Vigliotti 5/8/2008 6:50pm
The Dave Matthews Band is going back to that certain city that is sleep deprived.
According to an email from The Warehouse, DMB will perform at Madison Square Garden on September 10 2008. The concert is a benefit cancer research, under the title "Stand Up for a Cure". Get it?
The tickets are not exactly cheap - $254.40 for the very front floor (not available through the Warehouse); and then $204.50 down to $79.50. But it is for a cancer charity, so it is not that bad.
The tickets go on sale May 9, and the ticketing sales end May 16.

Source: Tim Reynolds on for entire tour
Posted by Jake Vigliotti 5/2/08 2:48pm
It appears that Tim Reynolds will indeed be on the entire 2008 tour.
A source familiar with the touring schedule of the Dave Matthews Band tells antsmarching.org that Tim Reynolds will be at every show in 2008, and plans on staying on tour with them all summer. Reynolds canceled some of his tour dates in the summer, and moved some things around to accommodate the DMB tour. Speculation was that he would at the very least be there for the shows where TR3 were performing, but now it appears he is scheduled for the whole tour, according to the source.
The DMB tour starts May 30 in Burgettstown, PA.
UPDATE According to a May 5 email from The Warehouse Butch Taylor and Rashawn Ross are both confirmed for the 2008 tour as well, putting eight people up on stage at once.
New Book Inspired By DMB Songs
Posted by Jake Vigliotti 4/24/08 8:46pm
We're all acutely aware of the power of a DMB song. And some people can hear a song and just kinda run with it. That is the premise behind a new book; True Reflections.
Rumpus Media's new book, edited by Kathleen Kearney features 8 unique stories inspired by the songs of DMB. There is also a story inspired by the lead singer of said band. This is not a 'Ants Marching is about...', it's more of an exercise in creative writing; how someone might be inspired by a thought from a line of a song, or the theme of a song.
And in the interest of fairness, we (meaning I) wrote the intro for the book. The stories vary in theme, but two that stand out are the song inspired by "Ants Marching" and the song inspired by "True Reflections".
The book is available for purchase here.
As it states on Rumpus Media's main page, In no way is this book affiliated or endorsed by DMB, their management, or record label. So don't be confused into thinking that you're getting a book about the songs. As said above, it's more of a creative writing essay on how one thought can lead to some abstract thoughts. Similar to a DMB song in itself.

Wetlands DOC w/DMB available for purchase
Posted by Jake Vigliotti 4/22/08 9:15pm
You may recall the Wetlands Documentary we mentioned previously. It is now available for purchase.
The Best Documentary – Asheville Film Festival winning movie, featuring DMB among other bands, also has a few sound bytes from Dave Matthews discussing the historic New York Venue. DMB of course played there a few times in the early 90's.
The DVD is available from Amazon, or you can buy it right from first run features (that site also has a trailer for the release).
The doc runs a bit over an hour and a half, and in the bonus features, Boyd and Stefan both appear. The disc is worth it for the DMB appearances alone, but the unique history of this legendary venue makes the documentary more special.

Obama-Rama (again)
The concert is open to anyone who is a resident of Indiana. Free admission for anyone who picks up a ticket (by presenting a valid Indiana ID or a Student ID from Indiana University) at specific ticket locations (see the link for details).
In other out of season live-show news, DMB apparently performed at the corporate function of Outback Steakhouse on April 1 (but not a joke...). The show was just south of Disney outside Orlando, FL. The setlist didn't reveal any new songs from the sessions that are going on now (but on hold during this mini-show run).
Speaking of... in case you don't go to the boards too often (shame on you), there is a new video teasing the band's latest session (available via iLike). That's a place that seems likely to 'leak' some more studio videos, so if you want to stay ahead of the game, feel free to sign up!
Buy A Ticket, Get Free Music
Anyone who purchases a ticket via The Warehouse or Ticketmaster will receive (eventually) a link to download songs from the upcoming DMB tour, antsmarching.org has learned.
The way it will work is at the end of the tour, a sort-of best of compilation - consisting of a yet-to-be-determined number of songs, will be available for download via iTunes.
The songs chosen will be based on performance - in other words, if they think a particular song that evening was outstanding, it'll be considered for the release. Nothing is pre-determined.
If you've already purchased tickets through The Warehouse don't call them, they'll call you - so to speak. They know who purchased tickets already, and they will email you at the appropriate time. Ticketmaster will also email you a link after your purchase.
And if you are going to use ticketmaster.com, feel free to follow the link from the show you want to attend from our Tour Central. The links will appear prior to the public sale of those tickets. It helps us out a bit by doing that!
DMB to Headline Mile High Music Festival
The Mile High Music Festival features a great lineup; Tom Petty, John Mayer, O.A.R., and The Roots are among the artists lined up.
The Festival is scheduled for July 19 and 20. That explains the break after the West Palm Beach shows (July 11 and 12) for DMB. Tickets go on sale March 29, according to the Mile High official site.
