Tour Starts Back, Webcast, and Common Names for $200 Please, Alex
Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News at 2:07pm on Saturday, Aug 14th, 2010The fortnight break for Dave Matthews Band is no more; the tour starts up August 14 (that's tonight if you're reading this on August 14) in Wichita, KS. It's the band's first show in the place where Dorthy got her tornado on since 2007.
If the break has been just too much for you, don't fret, the August 15 show from Denver will be webcast, according to The Warehouse. DMB starts at 10:30 et, so you better take a nap during the day if you want to stay up late! (East coast folks only on the nap)
Also, have you ever wondered what it'd be like if you were named Dave Matthews? Probably not, considering that the Matthews last name is the #169th most common out there. After all, there's a professional piano player with the same nomenclature as the guy we call "Dave". But you've probably never imagined what'd it be like to be named Dave Matthews, write for a sports website, and have questionable taste in music. Wonder no more, that song has now been sung. Kinda funny that the guys name was supposed to be Robert Randolph. But it could be worse, you could be this kid.
Farm Aid 2010 and NFL Kickoff Shows
Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News at 9:49pm on Sunday, Aug 8th, 2010The Warehouse announced that Dave Matthews will perform at the 25th anniversary of Farm Aid October 2 in Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI. The 25th anniversary show is titled, "Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America". Warehouse members can order tickets now for the event.
NBC-TV let it slip that Dave Matthews Band will be performing the NFL Opening Game Kickoff in New Orleans on September 9. The actual performance is free, and will be televised to an extent on NBC prior to the Saints/Vikings game that same evening. Most likely the concert will occur right outside the Superdome, but the official word on where exactly DMB will play hasn't hit the internet yet. Taylor Swift, who of course writes her own songs in case you hadn't heard, is the other performer for the NFL Opening Game Kickoff.
Live from West Palm Beach
Posted by Matthew Yette in antsmarching.org Site News at 11:03am on Friday, Jul 30th, 2010antsmarching.org has invaded the PGA Resort and Spa for our third Official Ants After-Party. What better time to let everyone know what we'll have in store for you, and rub it in the faces of those that aren't showing up.
- Lunch Buffet Special - $15 per person, with an incredible menu - Friday and Saturday from 12p-3p!
- Drink Specials at the Pool - $6 Cuba Libre's Friday, the PGA National's world-famous Mojitos for $6 on Saturday (The Bacardi Girls will be there on Saturday also!), and $6 Bloody Mary's on Sunday for recovery purposes.
- Exclusive Soundboard unreleased Dave Matthews Band show! As we did at our Charlottesville party in 2009, we will be playing an unreleased soundboard show at the pool on Saturday. The live show will start at noon-ish. Don't miss out!
- Live Stream - We felt so bad for everyone not making it down to West Palm Beach, so we decided to stream live from the Pool and the parties. Just check out this link to watch the pool and party action.
- The Big Ballroom! - We're moving the action out of the iBar for the 2010 party and into the ballroom! There will be 7 bars set up in the ballroom, so you can get your drink on! And don't forget the live acoustic duo that will be performing both nights! Ron Rotondo rocked the house two years ago, and now that he performs as an acoustic duo, he'll doubly rock the house!
- Starr Hill Beer Will Be Flowing! We are pleased to announce that Starr Hill, the beer brewed in Charlottesville, VA, will be available at the PGA National! The Amber and Jomo Lager will be the featured beers (they are both awe$ome).
- Plus we'll have Ants T-shirts, and other goodies and a few surprises!
Live Trax 18 - Virginia Beach
Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Live Releases at 2:54pm on Saturday, Jul 24th, 2010The mixes on the Live Trax have been very good lately, and this one falls in line with that. We think it might just be the best mix yet. Dave also feels a bit nostalgic during the show, and he mentions the old days of how the band started during the intro to Nancies. He also uses Lie In Our Graves as sort of a PSA to remind people to take chances in life. Overall, it's a very solid show.
You can pre-order here. The release date is August 31.

So even if you're not staying at the PGA National this year (for shame...), make sure you take the trek out to Palm Beach Gardens, just a few short exits up the Turnpike from the Amphitheater, and come hang out with us after the show!
To hold you over til then, if you're not going to be in attendance for the HullabaLOO show, The entire three-day-festival will be webcast. DMB plays on Sunday, but you can check out any of the other acts Friday and Saturday here .
UPDATE: Seemingly, they're only showing five tracks from DMB on the webcast for HullabaLOO, so tune in now-ish (8:30 ET) if you want to have a shot at catching something.
Lost Shows Found
Posted by Matthew Yette in antsmarching.org Site News at 2:11pm on Wednesday, Jul 21st, 2010
Whereas the loss of a classic show from circulation is indeed a sad thing, the excitement of finding and re-releasing that show to the community is a real treat. We're happy to announce the immediate availability of a former lost show, July 22, 1994 at The Nick in Birmingham, AL, in our BitTorrent Download Area. The set includes an early version of Say Goodbye, and Dave even flubs the lyrics a bit. Unfortunately, All Along the Watchtower, the show closer, wasn't recorded. Other than that, though, it's a fantastic show from the soundboard era! Grab it, share it, enjoy it!
Also of note is a previously uncirculated 45-minute interview with Dave by local fan Sean Carrey from July 21, 1994. Originally, the interview was lost, with only Dave's performance of Pay For What You Get remaining. However, we were able to track down the original recording and now are spreading the full interview. Two nice finds from 16 years ago. Enjoy!
DMB's South American Adventures
Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Tour News at 5:50pm on Tuesday, Jul 20th, 2010In case you missed it, the Dave Matthews Band presale for the South American performances in South America will begin on Saturday, July 17th. The public sale will begin on Tuesday, July 20th. So head on over to the official site and follow the links to get you Carnival on.
But in case your Portuguese isn't what it used to be since the war, you can take a shot at the ole espanol. According to a Chilean newspaper, DMB is heading to Chile as well. In case you're not in Florida or Arizona, that headline translates to "Dave Matthews Band will give their first concert in Chile". The listed date is October 16 at el Movistar Arena. Our friends over at dmbla.com have some more info, so if you have a good English-Spanish translator site, have at it.
And it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out that there's an 8 day gap between the Brazil and Chile shows, so, you know what that means... Stay tuned.
Starr Hill Ticket Giveaway Winner
Posted by Matthew Yette in antsmarching.org Site News at 4:50pm on Monday, Jul 19th, 2010
Congratulations to Ants member pchilds! We'll be meeting up with him at the Ants After-Party to hook him up with the pair. And hopefully he'll be sticking around to party, as it's looking like there will be some very tasty beverages available. We're not saying from whom, and we're also not saying it has anything to do with the sponsor of this contest, either.
See everyone there!
Dave At Cavallo's House, And Other Happenings
Posted by Jake Vigliotti in Band Member News at 9:30pm on Tuesday, Jul 13th, 2010
In case you missed Dave's thoughts on why he performed at Music Saves Mountains, here's an item on it from tonic.com, which also includes a YouTube clip interview from Dave.
Dave is performing another charity event (without the MB this time). On August 22, Dave will be performing at Producer Rob Cavallo's home as part of the Backyard BBQ Concert. The charity is sponsoring the Tuition Assistance Fund at Heschel West Day School, and the performance is literally at the home of Rob and Kim Cavallo. It's a fundraiser, so it ain't cheap, but like I just said 10 words ago, "fundraiser". The link explains how the charity will work.
And in the world of blogs, New York Times Magazine writer Benoit Denizet-Lewis told of his love of Dave Matthews Band from a different perspective of sorts; a gay one. Have a read at his take here.
