Disney helps Dave Grow
Posted by Joe Maliszeski in Band Side Projects at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 22nd, 2004Those of you that have been around the online DMB community for awhile may have to dig deep to remember back in 1999 when Dave accepted a role to play Will "Pa" Coleman in the remake of the film Where The Red Fern Grows, based on the children's book by Wilson Rawls. From the start, the project faced big money problems. Even with Dave contributing $150,000 to keep the film alive, it ultimately came to a halt when the actors and crew couldn't be paid. The film was later picked up by Crusader Entertainment, now Bristol Bay Productions. Nothing much happened with the film until a year ago when the film was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. More recently, Bristol Bay Productions have sold the home video rights to The Walt Disney Company, according the The Hook, a Charlottesville weekly newspaper. Details on what exactly Disney plans to do have not been released but some action is anticipated, whether the film goes straight to DVD or becomes a theatrical release. More details will be posted when they become available.
In other Dave film news, the film Because Of Winn-Dixie that we reported on earlier in August is set for a January 14th theatrical release.
